I just got my 2 parts (idler gear wavy washer, and clutch sifter arm return spring)and put the engine cover back on. I have tried and retried over a dozen times, but it does not seem to work.
When I spin the starter with the cover off (holding the idler gear shaft in the socket with my finger) all works well. As soon as I put the primary engine cover on, I just get the one click. I tried putting the cover on without the clutch shifter "bullet" and even without the breather pipe, but still won't work. I have tried it with leaving the cover loose and "wiggling" the cover while trying to turn the starter also.
I am about to give up and take it to a dealer a couple of hours away by trailer.
Anybody got any thoughts. I hate to give up.
