Have to add, I bought a raptor mesh jacket 4-5 years ago and love it. I don't notice the elbow/shoulder armor inserts at all.

This after riding for many years with only a cotton shirt in the warm weather. Now that I have officially become the poster child for "Safety Joe", I always gear up
