This Norman Hyde kit moves both Rider footpegs back 4 inches. Good for us short folks. Norman Hyde Cruiser Footrest Kit

I cannot comfortably reach the shift and brake pedals on the America as I can barely reach the footpegs. I currently ride a 1999 Legend a BMW R850R and a BMW F650GS {lowered}. Since all are Standard bikes I have no problem reaching the pegs, the ground is another story. Anyway I was hoping to get a report from another vertically challenged person who may have put these on an America or Speedmaster.

TIA

I haven't heard of that kit. It might be of real interest.
You might search here for mid-pegs which are a bit the same idea.

There has been some talk of that set up around here before, I don't know if anyone actually broke down and bought it. Some one will chime in eventually, that's what's great about this site! Welcome to it!

Looking at the pictures I am going to attempt to make this type of thing.... have a plan in my head.

As Im a short ****** plus I like the more upright seat position I think it will improve the handling as well.. once I start Ill take some photos and let you know how it goes..

I just looked at these and looks to me like they could very easily be fabricated from a chunk of stainless plate very cheaply. Small pieces of plate are available at Ace and True Value. All you would need is a way to cut it, drill it and some time to polish it.

This is the UK mate.. getting bits of anything costs at least an arm.. sometimes a leg I got some nice alu here.. not sure if its strong enough but easy to work with... Like I say.. Ill play around a bit and see where it leads.

And as usual, cheaper the better

I am in a similar situation being vertically challenged, a set of working mid pegs was manufactured for a speedmaster by Cycle Stop USA, photos were added in one of the threads. They were talking of making these in kit form but then decided against it due to insurance issues. I rang them to try and get a set of drwings to have a set manufactured in the UK, never got any drawings and never persued any further.
I now run with Triumph foot boards and a set of mid pegs that fit between the rear pregs and the sproket cover giving an alternative position on long runs therfore problem solved.

But the guy who asked is from The US going by his signature.I didn't know you couldn't get small pieces of stainless somewhere in the UK for a reasonable price. Here in the US at one of the hardware stores I mentioned I can get a sheet about 1 foot by 3 feet fairly cheap.

If it's thick enough T6 aluminum it should work. If it is too thin or soft it wouldn't.

Depends how far you want to move it and the angle you want the lever at. There is quite a bit of adjustment in the shift rod. I found that out when moving Wendy's back. It is possible you may have to shorten it but there again not a huge job. Could make a new one or cut the existing rod with not too much trouble. Would have to get a LH thread die for one end though.

I plan on making the shift rod shorter and also grab a second hand linkage from ebay to make up the brake linkage.. looks like theres a cam type of thing on the brake.

If all goes well I plan to start next week just got my hagon rears so want to get the bike done ready for the sun.

yes i bought the kit and fitted it to my bike, when the rain snow and 90mph winds stop i cant wait to get out on it. as standard my legs where just a wee bit stretched, but sitting on it now, feels great. only problem is that i had iso pegs on before and they dont fit on with the norman hyde kit, but working round it at the momen. very easy to install looks good does the job, actually chunkier than standard. and a lot easier than making your own, i just aint got the time these days, and any time i do have, i wanna ride my bike any questions just ask.

any chance of pics fitted to the bike? One concern I had was whether they would affect ground clearance?

Padwah,

Is there any chance you could post a CLOSEUP picture of the brake linkage especially the cam part that attaches to the actual brake rod (rod that goes to the cylinder).. would help me out a lot.. Thanks,
