I've carried a Leatherman for years as a matter of habit, since I fix stuff for a living. Even forgot I had it one time and wore it onto a plane from Nashville to Seattle ('99 - and the security guy even showed me a trick to keep it from setting off the metal detector).
Lately I've been carrying one of these:

I can call it a tool cause it has a screwdriver

I remember as a kid I always carried a Buck folder that my dad gave me. Gave my boys, and my stepson, pocket knives to carry. Boys should have pocketknives, just as much as they should know how to rebuild a carb, how to start a fire, and never hit a girl.

PS - carry a pistol too; a UPS40 or a .38+P hammerless depending on my mood and clothing choice.
