Mine's been on for years with no problem. I think I tightened it up once after it had been on for a few months. The bike leans on the stand more than most Harleys with more weight on the end. My bike almost fell over once on asphalt when the stand sunk into it.
I think it's a must. It also eliminates having to find empty beer cans to use on sandy soil.
