Congrats bro. I ask my dealer last week about the TB. His response was "gee all I know is what I read on the internet" Sheez, it's hard to like a bunch of knuckleheads but it's all we've got. MIke

Congrats Keith. You know I've made sort of a "cottage industry of jokes" about "fins" around here, but I actually think it's a pretty good lookin' machine, overall. And, of all the color combinations they've shown us, I also think that the Blue/White combo is the best, also. And Mike, I know your frustration here, and my guess about why you got that particular response from your dealer is that it seems just about all manufacturers of vehicles seem to keep a whole lot of information from EVEN those who sell their products. And so, most if not all of 'em can only respond with a modern take on Will Rogers' old line about all the stuff he knew, and his sources of that knowledge.

Unless Kawasaki is capitalizing this venture, I predict the Thunderbird will soon be a Vaporbird. The collapsing economy simply isn't going to support such an uncompetitive machine in sufficient volume.

Now, I know the History Channel has been broadcasting all that "Armageddon/Nostradamas/Aztec" nonsense all week, and they're sayin' it's gonna be "lights out for everybody" come December 21st, 2012, but GEEEEZ Jackson....I sure hope you're not buyin' into all that crap TOO!!!

Keith,
A most excellent decision. I like the looks of the Thunderbird. I am sure Triumph will sell all they make.
I do find it interesting that so many complain about the TB when Triumph incorporated many of features that so many wished the America/Speedmaster had. You just can't please them all.

Thanks all. Yep, the long wait has begun. I am looking forward to a new beast in the garage. We shall see if it is all that I am hoping it to be.
Regarding Lazyrider and his comments, I don't worry about them at all anymore since I discovered the ignore user function. I might suggest others discover this function as well to help keep peace and general congeniality and camaraderie on this board.
Now I wonder what her name is gonna be. I think it is gonna take a few miles and some bourbon in the garage afterward to solve that quandary.

Hey Ed, I'm happy for anyone who gets a new bike. It's especially a privelege to ride a new Triumph. I just think there's some serious doubt about the future of this one, and that has nothin' to do with my own personal opinion about its looks or heritage. So what's off-topic about talkin' about the future of this bike in a thread about buyin' one in the future? Explain that for me, OK?

Congrats, man! I want to wait and see it in person before I decide. I always thought I wanted my next bike to be a Thruxton, but it feels too small underneath me.

Talking about the future, if the EPA rules for engine noise abatement goes into effect in 2012 the Thunderbird and Rocket III could be the future for Triumph cruisers in the USA. Currently the only way the manufacturers have come up to meet this new requirement is by using water cooled engines.
So our beloved America and Speedmaster could become history unless Triumph comes up with some new way to reduce engine noise.
Someone with much more knowledge than I might be able to shed more light on this subject.

Thanks, Thanassis. Honestly I do not care what the bringers of doom and gloom have to say. I want one. I am going to get one. And that is that. If for some reason, god would only know why right now, I end up not liking it, I will either sell it or make it so I do like it. No probs either way in my opinion. I look forward to the day you visit Chicago and I get to let you ride my America, Thunderbird or Bonneville or all three for that matter. That, my friend, is something that would bring a smile to my face.

Dude!, with that $400.00 left over, you need to respond to a post I've put up here several months ago, but hasn't received any interest. No one else is going to offer you ocean front lots in Arizona (avalible August of 2012) for $100.00 down except me! And don't listen to anything that OTHER DUDE says, I'm trustworthy! P.S., The waves make ridges on the shore that look like FINS!

I'll bet you 25 bucks it will be a success. Your reasoning is not sound. The reason it is competetive is that Triumph does not have an entry in that displacment category. All the other 1600 cc bikes are doing well, why not this one? The R-3 is too big for most folks and the 865cc Bonneville line is too small for others. This bike fills a niche that is not there for Triumph at the present. And please tell me what Kawasaki has to do with anything? Are you saying it looks like a Kawasaki? All the other competition in this category are V-twins not parallel twins. This will also add to the uniqueness of the new T-bird which will add up to more sales. But I bow to your right to have your own opinion even though your are about the only one here that does not think it will do well.

Well, my only comment is, that price really seems a bit steep unless they are planning on jumping the price of a basic R3 by a couple of grand.... You could find dealers all over now that would give u that price on an R3 out the door.....

A 1600 parallel twin will eat any 1800 V-twin cruiser for lunch. None of my 1400cc Harley friends can even outrun my 904 Triumph.

Congrats on taking the plunge. I hope to do the same before the year is out. I don't know why some feel they have to rain on your parade - this site just ain't what she used to be..... As Newt says - "ENJOY"! And if brother Thanassis makes it to your neck of the woods, well there's one long distance ride I just might have to make...
