Well John, IF those sketches are even CLOSE to how that puppy is gonna look, then offhand I'd say those fellas in Minnesota who make that OTHER american motorcycle, who's name is a synonym of "Triumph", best look into some kind'a copyright infringement litigation right away.

Yep! If you wouldn't have told me that that was a Honda, I'd have SWORN it was a Victory motorsickle, alright!

And I have to say that I've never particularly liked the look of a gastank's bottom edge being placed that high above the top of the cylinder heads either, as it leaves too much "open area" between the engine and the tank, a design mistake, I FEEL, that many custom Triumph choppers suffer way too much.

(but HEY, at LEAST it has cooling fins, RIGHT???!!!)

Some guys like the open area above the head. I have helped on a few HDs my friend was building where we lowered the engine in the frame to to make that even more pronounced.

Does put one in the mind of the Victory, never liked that gas tank sweeping down to meet the front of the seat look. But I guess quite a few do since I see it on the high end "customs" too.

The closer the frame is to the top of the head the
harder the top end is to work on.

here is a live pic... look, the test rider has loafers on! I'm not impressed by the bike, I don't think Triumph will lose any sales over this one

Whoopdedo, I think I'v seen that same design ten times today on the highway.
What size is this supposed to be.? If it ain't a 3000, which I doubt then I'd then say it's just another HD clone ( or Victory clone of an Hd Clone) or something like that.

Ah HA! So THAT'S the Honda Cruiser I've been hearin' about for a while where they talked about hiding the radiator in that under-seat location, huh?!

That was my thought before I even scrolled down to your post Dwight.
Also, THE REAL Victory will be unveiling a new concept bike next Friday at the New York MC show.

The one thing I do like about it and would like if the new T-bird had is the fake fins and hidden rad. That's a good idea and keeps the classic air cooled look. Only time will tell how well the hidden rad cools the engine. Probably has a fan like my old Waterbuffalo had.

I think this is yet another Japanese bike that's too small for a six-footer. That rider looks awfully short.

This pic is not the Honda Fury, this was a VTX prototype from about 6 years ago, this picture was taken about 5 years ago.

The sketches shown first are correct. The reason it has so much space between the engine and the gas tank is they are promoting this to the Chopper crowd not the cruiser crowd.

As far as factory produced Choppers go, I think they've done a very good job and it's certainly a radical design for a conservative Japanese company. Considering all the competition for this bike is priced around $25K-$35K it will certainly make an impact...

The Honda Replicator eh? Dare to be like everyone else!

I would be much more interested in an aftermarket traditional air cooled barrel/head combination for the Thunderbird myself. One can always hope.

I've owned a bunch of Hondas...

But they seem to have lost it as a corporation since Sochiro died. Honda has a 40 year tradition in the chopper arena. They should have copied something like my old '70 rigid 750. That would have been way cool, but probably not marketable, huh!

If the bike in the picture is from around '02 it would have preceded both Victory 8Ball and Hammer models by 2-3 years.

Yeah, except that Aussiebiker says that the photoed bike and the stetched bike are two differnt machines and not to be confused with each other. And so, if he's right, then the sketched bike doesn't appear to have that underseat radiator like the photoed bike does.

But what I'm now wondering is that I know Honda has been working on a V-twin cruiser with that particular radiator placement for some time now, but as far as I know, and I could be wong here, it still hasn't appeared on the market.

And so, did they give up on that idea and are now going to bring out something along the lines of that sketched bike instead, or....well...now I'm REALLY confused here, folks!!!

(somebody "hep" me here, will ya???!!!)

Correct.
I was following on from my post covering the pictured bike which (if true) apparently preceded the Victory 8Ball and Hammer models by a few years, which it seems came out in '05.
That would make them Victory clones of a Jap Harley clone.

Well, once H-D became the sales phenomenon that it did after the Evos came out, almost everybody and his "brother-san" wanted to, and did, make V-Twin cruisers, ya know.

And yep, one COULD say that ALL those bikes pretty much look alike, and are just slight "variations on the same V-Twin theme", WHICH makes the Thunderbird, and in fact ANY of the present Triumph cruiser line unique in that regard, of course.

As a mater of interest, over here in the UK Honda don't have the VTX1300 (considered one if these) or the VTX 1800 on their 09 catalogue, just two 750 V twin cruisers.

I just found this.

You're right. They dropped the idea of placing the radiator at the rear of the bike and funneling air through to it. And the Fury is simply a stretched out Chopper based on the current VTX water called 1300 engine. The radiator will be placed up front as per usual, although nestled inbetween the downtubes to conseal it better.

That's the way to do it with the "radiator". Or is it an oil cooler like SOME V-twins use?

Speaking of fins, who's got a good fin cleaning technique?

Now now, Joe! As much as I'd like to see a little more cooling fins on the new T-Bird's cylinder barrels, one CAN go a little overboard with this whole "fin thing", ya know!

Case in point...this particular GM concept car known as the Firebird III from 1958...

(yep...even I think they went a little too far here, dude!)
