I've emailed back & forth with a bonnie rider who is a Galena local and he passed on some great info. He's going to join up with us as much as he can. Here's some highlights.
Scott:
I was at the Dubuque Triumph dealer tonight and mentioned the rally...they used to help out with one here in Galena years ago. The guy I talked to seemed excited about the idea and said they'd be willing to help in case anyone needs repairs/has a tire go down/etc. It is Sindt Motorsports...they said to have the organizer call and get them the info. Irregardless they are a full service Triumph dealer...have examples of all the bikes on the floor at the moment and have a few racks of Triumph clothing and some other accessories. Worth checking out.
He also added this;
Friday and Saturday evenings there is stuff going on downtown in Galena...lots of bars/places to eat. Bands playing...in fact there's a Bob Dylan cover band at the Grape Escape on Saturday night...very appropriate for a Triumph gathering. Theres also the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque - I'm not a big gambler but that place is pretty cool. Brand new last year - it is a big complex with several bars/clubs, restaurants, a bowling alley, arcade, and of course gambling. Maybe it's because it news but it definitely doesn't have the dingy feel of alot of those places. That might be a place to go after the cruise on Friday. Lots of little shops downtown Galena - antiques, boutiques, specialty places, etc. but one place I'd tell you to definitely go in is the Galena Canning Company - The owner who is always there used to do alot of appearances on the Food Network. - the place has awesome salsas, dips, jams, and other sauces - and you can sample them all.
As far as places to eat there are no shortages in Galena. Aside from fast food and chain restaurants there a ton of local places. Here are a few of the more popular ones...
Casual - 111 Main - very good place. Lots of variety on the menu. They use local ingredients in their meals...its reasonably priced...good atmosphere. Boone's Place - bar and grill - burgers and more
More upscale places - Flying Horse - bistro, Log Cabin - Greek steakhouse, Fried Green Tomatoes - Italian, Vinny Vanucchi's - Italian
Very casual/good lunch spots: Durty Gurt's - good burgers, Frank O'Dowds Irish Pub - it is what it is, Fritz and Frites - German and French style bistro, Railway Cafe - good but small breakfast place/coffee shop
Pizza - Cannova's and Procento's are both very good pizza joints
Many more places can be found along with descriptions can be found at...
http://www.galena.org/Lots of bikes roll through here every weekend so all of the places downtown are biker friendly from the low key casual to the upscale places.
Thanks, Brett for the info

we'll see you there!
