Alright, I'm starting to think 7 rooms isn't going to be enough. If cheaper is best, I got a bid from a place for $50 a night, it's 12 miles from Galena. Reviews are mixed, seems to be an older place, but hey, 50 bucks is 50 bucks right? Here's a link http://groups.hotel-guides.us/Hotel/Hotel.cfm?hid=53515&Bid_ID=6795105

I read the reviews
It would be easier to plan if there was an accurate count of attendees. I would pitch a tent if it meant everyone was staying in the cabin/campground

There are some more reviews here: travelocity

And here: orbitz

These reviews seem to be a little more favorable than the other link I posted.
This place also has a shuttle if we want to go to a bar or a casino.

It would definitely be easier, but it's probably my fault for trying to put this together so early expecting people to commit to something 5-6 months down the road. I just have the itch and this is the only way to scratch it because the weather here sucks so bad.

I have yet to hear from anyone who plans to camp. Also I want to try to make it as cheap as possible for everyone so we get a good turn out, given the current economic climate. It dosen't look that bad does it?

Haha, you said pitch a tent.

LOL, I knew someone was going to get that, I chuckled even as I typed it. I will really just want a place to shower, so hopefully some one will work with me on that.

I'm gonna throw my hat in. I'll more than likely be able to go, and probably bring the wife this time. Hey Dave, your're gonna go right by me, wanna hook up? I figure if I go with you it will shorten the trip by at least an hour!

Definitely, Rich! I guess if you and your wife get a room, can I borrow bathroom privileges from time to time?

And she won't mind riding at my pace? Ahh, what am I saying, it's your turn to lead the way.

Yeah, I thought about her, nd the pace. I can handle it, but although we both have a few grey hairs, she definately doesn't want any more! We'll see, and hopefully can sign up a few more hitchers along the way.

Oh you have about 6 months of dark, dirty, bumpy road ahead. And thats just the beginning. Then there are the memories forever burned in the back of your skull.

I have a nice saturday ride planned out that I think will be very cool. From the hotel across the river down to the motorcycle museum in Anamosa, IA. From there we take the Grant Wood scenic byway to Bellevue, IA and down along side the Mississippi on the great river road. Back across the river into Savanna, IL, where there is the Iron Horse Social Club and Poopy's (both biker bars, IHSC has a museum). From Savanna we travel north through Mississippi Palisades state park, through some winding, hilly, beautiful countryside, up to Stagecoach trail, and back into Galena. Mapquest says just over 4 hours and 189 miles. Here's a map, it's from the old hotel, but you get the idea. Rally Run

OK, I got the hotel arrangments made. We're going to stay at Timmerman's hotel & resort in East Dubuque, Illinois, just 12 miles from downtown Galena, right on the Mississippi river. I chose this place because they had the most reasonable rates. With the economy the way it is, I wanted to make this as inexpensive as possible so we get a good turnout. $50 per night, your choice of room with king bed or 2 double beds. If you're feeling frisky, there are 4 jacuzzi rooms and 2 whirlpool rooms available for an extra $20. I blocked off 20 rooms, hope we fill 'em all, and if we need more it's no problem.

To reserve your room call the hotel at (815)747-3181. Mention you are booking with the BonnevilleAmerica.com group so they give you the discount(normal rate is $69).
From Timmerman's:
"The group may book under the block anytime before check-in. The group is not responsible to pay for unused rooms in the block. Group members may cancel reservations at any time before check-in. No deposit required."

Now, if you want to camp, there are a couple campgrounds near the area. www.palacecampground.com looks nice. I haven't gotten any feedback from anyone who really wants to camp, but if so, this looks like your best bet.

Also, if anyone wants to stay somewhere nicer, maybe a nice B&B or a swanky hotel, by all means, you're welcome to do so.

Well I planned it with the intent of being a rally for members of this board, which is america/speedmaster riders, based on previous conversations. There are a few other "rallies" held by other board members in different parts of the country, and I was basically trying to mimic them. So yes ideally it would be for Triumph riders, but if you, or anyone for that matter, wants to bring a friend and they ride a harley, honda, or whatever, they're more than welcome to join us. That being said, I'd like to keep it limited to the members here and their friends at first before opening it up to other groups. That way the people here get first crack at it, before it's full and it's not really about Triumph's anymore. Know what I mean?

Scott,I don't know how many rallys,if any, you've been to but one thing that we all like is a souvener T-shirt marking the occation. You might want to talk with Fast Eddy and see if he would be interested in sponcering such a thing? With the ecconome being so bad it might not be possible but he could at least get us a good rate by the dozen. So you need a post asking what size and how many we each need.Fast Ed is good with graffics set him lose desighning a midwest logo for the front and his logo on the back, thats how the other rallys do it.

Yeah Jack I've already thought of that. Haven't talked to Eddy about it yet, but was just thinking of going to a local place and see about prices. Haven't had a lot of time to get into it fully yet, but it's in the works. I went online and mocked up a design it looks like this-

Now keep in mind this is only a rough draft, and hopefully the image will improve, but rest assured, I'm on it! If anyone has any design ideas, let me know, I suck at this.

I'm in! I'd prefer a room to stay in. Not sure if I'll have any 'blacksheep' following me around. Possible an old KZ, a Bimmer, or a Hog.

I've driven Highway 20 to Rockford the past few years going to the races. Check out a ride with that road in it. The roads go up and down, around and through the hills. The view is unforgettable!!!!!

Cool man. Lodging info is on page 7 of this thread. You can call and reserve now, and if you need to cancel later down the road, there's no deposit or anything. Maybe I should start a new thread just for the lodging info since it's kinda stuck in the middle of the thread...

I just reserved my room at Timmerman's for July 10th and 11th.

Strangely enough... as soon as I hung up the phone... I immediately sensed that I was coming down with spring fever.

If you happen to be an AMA member, like myself, you get a cheaper admission to the National Motorcycle Museum. I went last year, I think it was something like $2 off.
