LCP, you didn't see somehing inline on the hose looking from the right side behind the carb? Whatever it is (teeny bit bigger than the hose), it is in a retainer clip. I'm assuming this must be a check valve. I had to remove the chrome fake air filter piece to see in there good. My hose continues on from there down across behind the battery and under bike.
