Just thinking about next years Idaho Invasion already. I am thinking about Hell's Canyon and maybe this year meeting in Cambridge, Idaho. It looks like it will be much more accessible to some great rides than last year. I have no idea yet what dates, I am going to wait until Triumph releases their schedule.

Well, I'm definitely interested. I felt like I got cheated out of the Cascade trip last year.

Soren,
If the Kootenay Raid (Nelson, BC) stays on the same weekend as in prior years, that will take place July 21-23. That was a great time.
If we stay on the same weekend as last year, that would be July 28 - 30.
Of course I already have the 4th weekend penciled in, as well as the Ride for Hope Ralleye, Kalispell, July 14-16. Guess I'll be taking some vacation the 7th month of the new year
I thought I heard Evanman offer to host us all . Have to wait for BT and Speedracer to chime in.

Soren. I will definitely plan my annual trip to go to the Idaho Invasion and meet some of you guys. I had already planned last year and was in the neighborhood with no time. This year I am actually alot more free to plan most any time between mid July to end of August for two weeks. May very well ride up on my own, last year got some flack about the lenght of the ride. Uhm, that's why I went tho was my response! May show up to ride into Idaho with ya. Vic

One of the problems last year was that it was the same weekend as the Western RAT Raid. Hopefully we can find a weekend that there isn't any other RAT stuff going on (at least in the Northwest).
I think Triumph is supposed to post their schedule just after the first of the year.

But, speaking of mods, I'll have to make sure my pipes are not quite as loud as last year too so I dont get spotted by the jealous state troopers on their dead silent beamers again.

Any time, any place, Sue and I will do our dam#dest to be there. But my inquisitive nature makes me ask: are we Inflexable about Idaho? I had a great time and all, but how about a California Convergence? Or maybe the Nevada Encroachment? OK, OK, that last one doesn't quite work, but Alliteration Aside , I personally would like to see some new country...

I really want to make this trip this coming summer, that is, if you veteran "Invaders" will take a newbie. Too many things got in the way last summer, like work. Hope you set a date soon so I can call dibs on the time off. How many people met up last summer?

Actually Nevada wouldn't be a bad idea sometime. I would like to stick with Idaho this year, mostly because of time (off from work). If someone else would like to put something together for Nevada, that would be cool.
There is something about the thought of screaming across the desert at 100 mph that is very enticing.
I am still unsure of the dates yet. I am waiting fro Triumph to finish their schedule (unless it is finished) and for Lee to put out our rat-pack schedule.
Cody, there are five of us "Veteran Invaders". Boot-camp is easy. Just get there on two wheels.

I like the idea of sticking with Idaho. I think it's great country. In fact, tomorrow morning we ( GF and me ) are starting out on a trip from St Paul to Corvallis, Oregon. We will be covering Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and finally Oregon. Since the roads are treacherously icy from last night's snow storm, we will be doing this trip by car. I would love to get my bike out to that country.
Soren, I was looking through your pics and saw that you visited Stonehenge on the Columbia. Cool. I was there last spring. Addy (GF) and I stopped there and also at the Mary Hill Winery on a jaunt through Portland, The Dalles, Bend, and back to Corvallis. Nice country. Those are more places I'd like to take the bike.

Soren,
Do you know anymore about the Western Rat schedule? I wonder if the 4th of July works for people? It'd be an automatic 4 day weekend, but Family commitments might make that a bad choice for some.
Maybe the last weekend of July or the first one in August?
Just thinking out loud & reviving this thread.

John,
Glad you brought it up. I need to start thinking about it again.
4th of July weekend works for me, I am not sure about anyone else, plus hotel/motel/camground rates may be higher because of the weekend. I think I really like that last weekend in July or first weekend in August idea.

FWIW, the Hell's Canyon Motorcycle Rally (www.hellscanyonrally.com) is being held in Baker City, OR during May 19-22. It's almost 2-hours west of Boise, ID.
Open to all brands/models, BUT most of the motel rooms are already booked-up. La Grande, 44 miles north, has plenty of rooms, and is a nice ride via secondary route east of I-84.
I personally don't think Cambridge, ID is an ideal location for a m/c rally.

Here's the link which shows the monthly average lows and highs in Cambridge: http://www.weather.com/activities/drivin...amp;from=searchCambridge is a nice and quiet place. There's not much there. I *think* there's just one motel and rv park. Have only stayed there long enough to get gas, a snack, and drink. ;^)

I have decided on a date and I think that this will become the traditional weekend for the Idaho Invasion..... drum roll please.... The last weekend of July. So, that will be July 29th and 30th.
I am still trying to decide on the exact location. It may still take us another year or two to find a permanent location for every year, but we will find something. But, for now I like the area around or close to Cambridge, just because I really want to take that Hell's Canyon ride.

Soren, Thats only one week before the Sturgis Rally, now if you make the 5th and 6th of August your target date, we would be able to stop in for the weekend on the way to S.D. Bob

Soren, Here's a nice Idaho ride site by Grumbler (hope you don't mind Grumbler, I stumbled across your website reference on MCN or somewhere a month or so ago). When you say Hell's Canyon ride are you referring to Hwy 71 from Cambridge to the Brownlee dam on the Snake river? I know north and Central Idaho better. I (and Friar) can ride through the high country there and back. http://myweb.cableone.net/grumbler/index2.htmlThe dates don't make a great deal of difference to me, a week later would give a break from the Nelson, BC (3-4 day) rally however. If that works better for Bob & Amy from CA that'd be fine. ..Just thinking out loud, not trying to complicate plans . JH

Soren, I need to say, that AmyLee and I are traveling with a couple riding a Harley and I haven't talk to them about any side trips. What I'm trying to say, we may not be able to connect even if you change the date, so stay with your original plans. Sorry for any confusion. Bob

Hey Bob, No problem, no confusion. That weekend just happens to work out pretty good I think. It is the week after the Kootenay Raid and the week befor Sturgis. Plus, I dont have my son that weekend. He is only 9 and it would be way too much for him to ride that much at once. Only another six years and he can ride with us.

It's not a very detailed map (I have a much bigger, very much more detailed map, but it too big to scan), but it is what I was thinking of. From Cambridge, catch hwy 71 to the Brownlee Dam. Continue on Hwy 71 North to thge Oxbow Dam. Take Hwy 86 South West to Hwy 39. Take Hwy 39 North to the Hells canyon Overlook. For the return trip, same thing ony backwards. OR instead of crossing the Oxbow Dam, continue north along the Snake River to the Hells Canyon Dam and the Hells Canyon Visitors center. Soren

Soren, Understand I'm not "diggin in my heels" or anything, but you realize it's likely to be quite hot down in Hell's Canyon in mid-summer. I think it averages 15-20dF warmer than the neighboring high country that time of year. I came down through "Whitebird", just off the Snake river last summer on highway 95 south to Cascade. It drops a couple thousand feet to the bottom and was borderline take your breath away. Personally, I've only spent extended time in Hell's Canyon on the Snake river fishing for Steelhead in December and January. On the upside the desert and deep Hell's canyon scenery is along the river is spectacular. And if it's wet in the high country, it'll more than likely be dry in the Canyon. I have the weekend marked and plan to ride . Now, I'm wondering how Bikerthug's fixit project is coming along?? JH

Hot as hell in Hell's Canyon? Maybe I am strange, but I like the heat (amazing sometimes that I live in Oregon). As long as it isn't raining I will be fine. If it is too hot, just more of a reason for cold beer.

That is one of the reasons I picked that area for this year. I have never been there, but have seen pictures.

Hey Soren, I have been doing the 'W' word way to crazily. Looking at your dates of the 29th and 30th. Presently ,I will be there. Work would have to fall apart for me to not make it. I have a couple of HD's that will probably be coming along to simply be with me on the road , as I will end up being on the road for two weeks. Why can't it be now!!! Vic

Vic, Glad you are going to make it.
Hopefully, over the next week or so, I will get the time to nail down the exact location and round up a good place to stay. I wouldn't mind finding some cabins again like last year.

Hi Soren, You all probably know of this place? I have noticed it the last few years going up thru the Salmon River. Riggin's Idaho, They have really bitchin cabins right on the Salmon River cheap too! I don't know how close that would be to any of the riding thru Hells Canyon for a stopping place. Just a thought, It's my only one as I know nothing else about the area other than it's really nice country. Vic

Miles of twisty mountain miles in Idaho Vic, hope you and the Harley guys can make it. Patience man! Many roads to investigate between now and then . Goes for you too Cody, it's simple, just pencil out the dates, work is highly overrated.

JH, Yeah, I'll wait. I start getting a bit nutty about seeing that part of the country about this time of the year. I have been coming up to Troy for 7 years now about the end of July. Only last year did I do it on the bike. My life has not been the same since being on the road for two weeks on two wheels. I look at a couple of places a year and will be doing it again this year, hope to buy an old country ranch kind-of thing with some property to call home up there. It gets more exciting each year.... Frontier Motel
240 S Superior
Cambridge, ID 83610

They have 16 motel rooms and 9 camping spots.
I am going to start a new thread to kind of start taking a roll call.
