I used black lacquer spray from Home Depot to do my sprocket cover. De-glossed with something like 400 first. Took a while to fully cure, ended up pretty durable. Not rubbing shoes on it like what would happen with peg hangers, though. A fellow in our group had his whole bike (sport bike) done with truck bedliner at Linex.
