1970 TR6R 650cc Completely Restored by Big D Cycle. I've been drooling over this bike all morning. If only I had $9,000 to spend on a new toy!

In 1971 Triumph changed the bikes - did away with the gaiters, raised the seat height, Japanese style front forks, and had a different frame which was also was an oil reservoir. 1970 was the last year of the true classic 650 Triumphs. They did continue making the Daytona (500cc) in the same style for a couple of years. I had ordered a 650 to pick up in London in 1971. When I saw the "new" model I decided to by a 1971 Daytona instead because it still looked the same as the previous models. Mine looked very similar to this bike but Burgundy red and black and the 500 instead of the 650.

If you love the bike and want one, you probably won't find a better one to buy from that era.

Yep, I never liked the 71 and up look either. I have a 72 Daytona too, I like it and have it about 90% restored now. I have a couple 72 Bonnies and they are OK but never liked the look, got one in pieces for free and the other running for $300 so I couldn't pass them up. I have a 66 TR6C that I love. I like the single carb better on those old bikes, much easier to keep in tune.

I love all those old Triumphs, but how about this chopper project they are sellling? It needs alot of work, but it would be pretty slick when it all finished!

Their shop isn't that far from here, so I might run over there sometime to see these bikes in person. The owner used to own RPM Cycles which sells the new Triumph line, but he sold it so he could focus on the classic stuff.

Yep! I agree, Ian. Even though the Bonnies are more sought after and usually fetch higher prices, most of those folks experienced with ol' Meriden-built Triumphs, such as yourself, know that the single-carb TR6s are probably a better bike overall to own and ride.

My 1970 T120R Bonnie Streettracker here has a single-carb head TR6C head on it with a Sudco Mikuni conversion, and I've never had to worry about having to synch the carbs, and it's always run really strong.

Paint that bike red and put over under small round headlights on it and a unit engine and you have my 66 chopper. I took the Invaders off it though, I had a guy that wanted to buy them but he never followed through so they now sit all boxed up out in my shed. I have 2 rears and 1 front, 5 spoke rears and 6 spoke front.

I told you back when I first saw that bike Dwight, I really like it. I like the mono-block carbs too but run mostly concentric since they are easier to find and get parts for.I am still toying with putting a set of old Amal carbs on my SM that I have left over from an 850 Commando I restored a few years ago. The carbs only have 6,000 miles on the and needed a good cleaning but they customer insisted on new so I got the old ones.

Sorry Johann, but I sold the '69 El Camino a couple years ago to a guy who completely restored it. It turned out beautifully!

And the Tracker? Well, sorry again my friend, but I have already told the wife that when I die to have 'em dig that hole in the ground deep enough so they can just lower my tired ol' carcass with me sittin' upright on that baby for all eternity!!!

Man, there are some beautiful machines in this page,

I hate being poor...

Hey Dwight, that old Triumph of yours is a beauti, how often do you take her for a ride. I bet that turns some heads and is more of a Old Geezer magnet than the TBA.

Yeah John! "Doc Brown"! I remember that guy. Good one!

That might work, alright! I'll see if I still have his business card somewhere!

And Mark, yep, you're right! The Tracker is even more like a super-magnet...ESPECIALLY to us dudes born during the Eisenhower Administration!

I agree that single carbed Triumph twins are more ridable on a daily basis, but not because of carb tuning. Amals are not hard to tune and balance. I never had any experience with Mikunis. The real advantage is that the single carbed twins have a more responsive throtle, they are faster off the line. On the other hand a Bonnie will out perfom a TR6 on the turnpike.

Oh, for you that don't like the OIF look there is a kit that eliminates the air box and allows the use of pancake air filters.

I don't know about the Bonnie out performing the TR6, I have a TR6C and a couple Bonnies 2 72 5 spd Bonnies and a 67 Bonnie and I don't think they could catch the TR6C. The C model had a better cam in them but then again I run 10.5:1 pistons in that bike and the others have the stock compression pistons. The twin carbs tended not to stay balanced from my experience but were very easy to put back. Each carb was pulled by its own individual cable and they never wore evenly so one alway opened sooner than the other. Simple matter to readjust though.
