In 1971 Triumph changed the bikes - did away with the gaiters, raised the seat height, Japanese style front forks, and had a different frame which was also was an oil reservoir. 1970 was the last year of the true classic 650 Triumphs. They did continue making the Daytona (500cc) in the same style for a couple of years. I had ordered a 650 to pick up in London in 1971. When I saw the "new" model I decided to by a 1971 Daytona instead because it still looked the same as the previous models. Mine looked very similar to this bike but Burgundy red and black and the 500 instead of the 650.

If you love the bike and want one, you probably won't find a better one to buy from that era.
