Will be fitting a pair of new tapered TORs if it ever thaws out here in the Garden State - in posts here and elsewhere I've read about a certain hi temp silicone sealer that some use in the slip fit area. I was going to use copper (high temp) nevr seize here, but what's the skinny on this silicone?

Nothing fancy just smear a little high temp silicone on the inside of the muffler and slip it on and clamp down. Most of the high temp I have seen is red but Permatex does make Ultra Black high temp. It is black and meets the same temp requirements. I don't see it very often though.

use the silicon stuff, not the never seize. The silicon is more pliable and thicker for a better seal/

You can use any type of silicone for this. The difference in max recommended temp between regular RTV and so-called "high temp" silicone is extremely small, and in some cases, there's no difference at all. From what I can tell, "high-temp silicone" is strictly a marketing gimmick.

Just FYI, silicone (sill' eh k own)is the polymer stuff, and silicon (sill' eh kon) is the "sand" stuff. They are not interchangeable. Clay
