I'm in the process of insulating the roof of my garage/shop.
I's all done except for one course and a little bit of another.
Here it is at 8:30 this morning.

The temp was 20 degrees, which was also the overnight low.
The view is from the north where it is shaded.
The south side is in the sun and has a window like the one shown.
There's no heat on inside.
The frost free area on the west end is the unfinished part.
The last course is also unfinished on the south side.
Interesting effect, I thought.
Rafters apparent, too.

It makes a huge difference, doesn't it! Our house was built in 1925 and has next to no insulation. Two weeks ago my wife and I blew in 42 bags into the attic and above the rafters. We were short on time and ran out of bags with two sets of rafters left, so we decided to let it go since we hopefully have already made a big difference. You can spot the two rafters that lack frost every morning!

What kind of insulation?

Is your basement unfinished? If so, can you see the sill plate, and is it empty? If so, you can purchase a "froth pack" closed cell foam, spray it in about two inches deep and you shut off the air movement ( which in this instance is the greater issue than R value, two inches gives you a very sufficient R of 6 per inch, thus a 12 R ).
