That's probably why bikes back then needed upper end work at 20-30K.




Oh-Ya, Definitly, No doubt. No other reasons of course. Oil was always to blame. Some of those motors may have even turned 7,400 RPM's!
(MY 80' GS850 has over 60k on the odometer, many more while cable was disconnected, and NO motor work yet! Hits well over 7.4k all the time.)
The manuf.Owner's Manual spec's "A premium motor oil rated SE, SAE 10W-40.
And to think, None of my bikes EVER used more then one oil in one location, but vintage to me includes the 70' big four, plus many others. Maybe that wasn't considered.
