I pay $6.99 a qt for the Amsoil MC oil.

Hey man - Rotella would SAVE YOU at least $2 on every oil change. That adds up, ya know!

At Least!

1 gallon Rotella T < $16 on sale at walmart.(last time I bought it)
4 Qts Amsoil @ 6.99qt = $27.96.
1 gallon = 4 Qts.
Savings = about $12 per oil change

That $2 per oil change must be that new math.....

How about Royal Purple. A local Triumph dealor service manager and parts staff gave me the hard sell on it. I think they shoot it up they way they raved about it. I am using the recommended Mobile Syn 15-50. I hate to deviate from an oil put in the finest of cars (the automotive version that is). They did get my attenion re smoother shifting with Royal. Any Royal fans out there? I kept calling it Deep Purple. I saw them in 1971.

This thread still going..... Use Butter!!

Why would you want to buy oil recommended for a diesel engine? It's got a totally different additive package. Different soot levels, contaminants, etc etc. Synthetic motorcycle oil (no matter what type) is better than non MC oil. It's designed for the application. Having said that, will non MC oil affect the life of our engines. Given the low mileage we put on our bikes, probably not, because we usually don't wear them out. Also will oil not certified for clutch use affect clutch life? In a standard application, probably not. Down the road the clutch might be more prone to slippage though.

For those of you who want to save a buck on the life blood of an engine, go for it..... and Good Luck

This gets mentioned alot, but apparently not by anyone who actually experienced it...

Really, stay away from the ultra thin energy conserving oils & there are no worries with clutch slippage.

OK, I take it all back. $12 is worth risking a motor for.

I regret not seeing more of the old groups back then. Just didn't have the money, although I did manage to cough it up for Moody Blues and Jethro Tull. Missed the last Hendrix tickets by a day, then he was gone.

Amsoil is more $ up front, but then you can run it at least twice as long as any other oil. I only change the oil in any of my vehicles once a year (except during the break-in period). For the bikes it's 12,000 miles or once a year. So in the long run Amsoil is much more cost effective.

It's your money, bike and time.

I missed the Moody Blues, but did see Jethro Tull. Tull was the best live band I ever saw. I would have given alot to see Hendrix. I recall the Tull experience was enhanced by dropping some orange barrel prior to the performance. My speed nowadays is Vince Gill and Amy Grant at the Fox last week.I am now a Jesus Freak. Its a good thing. I do no mood altering substances now including booze. Guys in recovery like me love bikes. A buz with no chemicals!

Nah, I've worn out plenty of the wear items though, tires, brakes, chains etc.

I was laughing at the "low mileage" comment.

Oh. I see you're in the short riding season area .

I should be offering you sympathy .
