Well, 411 miles if you go the boring direct route. Not a bad day of riding.

If anyone is coming up through either the Waneta or Patterson border crossings and you need a place to land before Nelson you can flop here. I am a bachelor and lack in frills but I do have a spare couch, floor and deck space. I live in Trail, just 45 min south of Nelson and just a stone's throw from the 49th.
Live to love, love to live.

Oh crap, I can't remember if I sent my registration in or not. I swear my infection and hospital stay turned me into a human etch-a-sketch. I can't remember a dang thing.

Gordy, I think this is what your looking for. Quote:
Happy 2009 all,
This is the first notification that the 7th Annual RAID is a go for July 16-19, 2009 in beautiful Nelson, BC. So book your rooms soon. Mention this is for the Kootenay RAID to the hotel, so they have a handle on attendance for victuals, security and everything else required to make this a success.
New Grand Hotel www.newgrandhotel.ca 1-250-352-7211 Toll Free 1-888-722-2258 Fax 250-352-2445
Island RAT is again taking the lead to organize attendance and events for this RAID, with valued assistance from other Packs and dealers in Western Canada and the North-West US. Last year’s RAID was well received and much of the credit for its success goes to Mike Gebler, CPO and former Island RAT Pack Leader (ret.). I would be remiss in not giving Danny Rickaby of the New Grand Hotel in Nelson credit for ensuring that the facilities and food in Nelson are up to their usual standard.
To register for the Raid please contact: Danny Rickaby danny@newgrandhotel.ca
That is it for now. There’ll be more details, notifications, forms, instructions and whatever else strikes my fancy coming out in the next while. Please note the new email address if you have any questions, concerns, want to volunteer, or whatever.

Or maybe this one.... Quote:
Folks who attended Nelson last year should have received this message from Vern. It'll soon be posted on the sites mentioned, for those in the area.......
jh
*************************************************************** Good evening everyone
Finally, the registration for the 7th Annual Kootenay RAID is ready. I am sending this first to those of you who attended for the 2008 RAID in order to give you first kick at registering for this year’s event. As you are aware, there are limits to the number of people that can be seated in the banquet room at the New Grand Hotel, so you are getting first dibs. In a week or so I’ll send these documents to surrounding Dealers and Pack Leaders, and ultimately will post it on www.triumphrat.net and www.sport-touring.net, so everyone who is interested in coming will surely hear about it.
First, a bit of an introduction of who I am and why I am doing this. My name is Vern Vogt, Island RAT Pack Leader, from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. I joined Island RAT in mid 2006 after I bought my 2004 TBS and subsequently found from Savage Cycles that there was a readymade group to ride with. I was Co-Pack leader last year, and have since taken over from Mike Gebler, who organized the RAID in 2008, as Pack Leader. And whom I am relying on greatly to keep me from the obvious pitfalls. My wife Debra and I have attended the last two Kootenay RAIDs, as well as numerous local events put on by Island and Western RATs. Mike’s schedule did not permit him to take on the organization of the RAID again this year, and I decided it was a good thing that should carry on. This is why we are working with Danny Rickaby of the New Grand in Nelson to pull this RAID together. With support from Savage Cycles of Sidney, BC, Western Pack of Langley, and a host of other individuals and dealers who will be acknowledged at the RAID during the banquet in an amusing and short sermon.
Triumph is making changes in the way they are marketing their products and are moving away from direct involvement in the organization of RAIDs. Therefore, if these events are to continue, it’s contingent on local dealers and RAT Packs to make them happen. So Island RATs and friends are doing it again. We hope RAT NA will be able to make a presence in Nelson, but the RAID goes on as a non- sanctioned event.
Danny Rickaby of the New Grand has asked that you book online at http://www.newgrandhotel.ca/reservation.htm . Place the word Triumph09 in brackets beside your name (i.e. Johnny Wayne (Triumph09)) so the RAID discount applies and to assist with the admin. The New Grand Hotel is full, but Danny is making arrangements with other local hotels for bookings to accommodate all.
There are more details in the attached Intro letter. And the Registration form should be completed and mailed to me as soon as possible.
Finally, if you wish to volunteer your services, your offer will be gratefully (and instantly) accepted. This is definitely a group effort so we can all share in the glory when the dust settles and people are talking about what a great time they had. Look forward to seeing you in Nelson!!

I'm good to go. Freedom got the room. I sent my registration in. The bike's running good. Gonna put the dual disc wheel on in the next week or two with the Speedmaster front fender. Should also have my Speedmaster bars installed. May also have my new luggage rack (similar to yours) and saddlebags. Probably won't get the new paint done in time (again). Luck for me you're so far ahead of me that I don't have to worry about competing for BEST TRIUMPH IN THE KOOTENAYS (or best cruiser, either).
I think all that's left is for Freedom and I to decide where we're going. Looks like we're not going to rinse and repeat last year's trip. We'll probably spend more time up in BC. Maybe up to Jasper and possibly over to Prince George before heading down to Surrey to "pick up" Celt and whomever else wants to tag along. We'll keep y'all updated.

Between work commitments & play commitments, I'll be mostly away from here from July 7 - 30. I just want to make sure I have my bases covered and a job to come back to
It's a matter of timing & good luck

I cant imagine they would give Best Bike to a cruiser two years running not to mention the SAME cruiser. I was hoping yours would be done. Oh well.
I dont have grand plans for a ride in other than to just get there.

gobsmacked
I thought you made that word up...guess not. I did have to look it up though.
It’s a fairly recent British slang term. The usual form is gobsmacked, though gobstruck is also found. It’s a combination of gob, mouth, and smacked. It means “utterly astonished, astoundedâ€. It’s much stronger than just being surprised; it’s used for something that leaves you speechless, or otherwise stops you dead in your tracks. It suggests that something is as surprising as being suddenly hit in the face.

Freedom and I have been talking offline and it looks like our trip will be a little shorter. We'll probably be leaving on Tuesday the 14th from Thompson Falls. The route is yet to be determined and we may not make it out to the coast. We'll let all you Pacific NW types know what we're doing when we know.

I really look forward to meeting a bunch of you heading for Nelson in July. I will be volunteering with something (and therefore be at your service) and will be available for autographs and tour guiding). Yes... I am a local legend in my own mind and a location specific expert.
PS... Look for the old guy with a great big head.

This is what we're looking at. We'd be happy to have anyone join us at any point. Needless to say this is the LOOOOONG way to Nelson (although one map I had went all the way to Prince George). Map 1 : Jasper 1, 1305mi total Tuesday (14th) night, Lake Louise, 382mi Wednesday (15th) night, Kamloops, 417mi Thursday (16th) night, Nelson, 283mi We could stop somewhere before Kamloops to balance out the load between Wednesday and Thursday. There are tons if little towns north of Kamloops, just no "major" ones. If you can't meet us, there will be plenty of riding (and the lifting of adult beverages) to do once we all get to Nelson.

At a car show on Memorial Day weekend I saw a supercharged Harley with two nitrous bottles mounting side-by-side on a custom luggage rack. Everything was chromed out, of course. I've known the owner since high school. A real douchebag (surprise!). I've never wanted so badly to kick a bike over on its side...

An update on our schedule. Freedom and I will be stopping over at Saskatchewan Junction north of Lake Louise on Tuesday the 14th. Then we'll head north to Jasper and west and south to Kamloops where we'll stay on Wednesday the 15th and meet up with Celt. From there it's east to Nelson through Vernon. While we will technically be in Nelson a day early, Thursday the 16th, that gives up a day's wiggle room in case there are any problems. Everyone and anyone are welcome to join us on any leg of the trip, otherwise we'll see you in Nelson. Updated Map
