The car was originally built in 1959 and is equipped with an impossibly rare 1952 Ariel Square Four motorcycle engine, a smooth-running four-cylinder 1000 cc engine able to push out about 42 HP. That might not seem like much, but when driving the sequential four-speed and with a weight of only a mere 750 lbs this little wooden car has got to be a rocket.

Cool, but not sure what they were smoking with this comment: about 42 HP. That might not seem like much, but when driving the sequential four-speed and with a weight of only a mere 750 lbs this little wooden car has got to be a rocket. The weight/horsepower ratio is higher than my Altima!
But cool! A guy on the Jockey Journal picked up an old kart that was built to accept a 650 Bonneville motor. He's restoring it now (Four Aces Triumph). That should be an intersting ride.

I've heard that the closer your butt is to the ground the greater the sensation of speed. Maybe that has something to do with it...

Whaddaya MEAN, "I've heard", there, John???!!! Didn't you have some first-hand experience in this regard just last year while you were here in SoCal, dude???
(and seein' as how you were sittin' a couple inches lower than I was, I'll bet you REALLY felt like you were flyin' over there on the right side of my little black car as we were motorin' along, huh?!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Your little go kart has a few more than 42 horsepower...
