I'm putting together a tool kit for my '09 BA, stuff to have with me on the road, not extended cruising, just day/week trips. Appreciate some help, do's and don'ts and whatnot... Thanx.

Cell phone Actually these bikes are very dependable, so far only need I had for tools was of my own doing. Put a tire on Wendys bike and it was lowered 2". Well the tire was too tall even though stock size and rubbed on the fender. Had me puzzled for a bit since it felt like I was riding with the break on. It would spin free on the jack and on the ground, it even spun free when I sat on it but once I got up to speed and the tire expanded from centrifugal force it would rub. Pulled the caliper along the road and rode it, still happening. Did many such adjustments along the road trying to figure it out. Once I got home and got the tire off it was obvious that the tire had been rubbing on the fender in the center. Trouble was you couldn't see that with the tire in place.

Thanks and yep I like having Wendy riding with me. Depending where in NJ you are maybe you could make some rides with us. Tom (brokenfixed) rides up from NJ down near Philly now and then.

My joke on tool kits is that they are no good without parts.
My antique bike I carry a few spare parts & oil & a good variety of tools. I was just wondering what to put onboard my BA. Just the usual wrenches screwdrivers and allenheads I suppose. About the only thing I see going wrong that I could fix on the roadside would be somthing coming loose like a cable or somthing.
Oh yeah, and your toolkit may be usless without a flashlight too.

Not always true, I have fixed the tranny on my old bike along the road several times. Once I broke a tooth off 5th gear and the tranny jammed. I had enough tools in my bag to take it apart,I got the broken tooth out and the tranny shifted OK. I spent the rest of the day riding it but only used 1st through 4th. This was a 72 triumph that I still own. Another time a tab washer that had been reused 1 too many times broke and let the main shaft in my 66 Triumph move back and forth. Once again I had the tools ion my bag to fix it enough to get me through the rest of the day. Fixed many broken chains along the road, mine once and other friends many times and was able to finish out the day. With my old bikes I also carried my timing tools with spare breaker plate and points already on it, extra set of plugs etc.... As long as it could be fixed without parts I was able to fix it so I do think carrying tools is a good idea.

Chain repair tools, extra plugs and plug socket, minimal socket set, something for the axle nuts etc.. Go over the bike and put together the tools you may need and spare gas line too along with some electrical tape and duct tape and a few zipties. I used to wrap a little of each tape around an old pencil to save room. Water pump pliers, wire cutters, chain breaker and master links (2) Tools to take off the gas tank, screw drivers, even a small compressor or pressureized cans to inflate a tire and tire plugs for tubeless tires. A rag and waterless hand cleaner. This is all stuff that just pops in my head I'm sure if I was putting a kit together I would add a couple things.

Heres what I carry with me.
Since I have Hard Bags Im not usually strapped for space but before that I would normally only carry this for longer trips.

Tools:
• Combo wrenches (8, 10, 12, 13 and 14 mm) .
• Allen (hex) wrench set (right angle type for easy access).
• Leatherman tool.
• Tubeless tire repair kit.
• Mini Mag light flashlight.
• Tire pressure gauge.

Non Tools:
• Vacuum plugs.
• Printed sheet with info containing alternate but compatible oil filters, oil, spark plugs, etc… (Check tech vault for this info).
• Oil filter.
• Assorted fuses (for both bike and added accessories).
• Duct tape (wrapped around small aluminum stock or pencil).
• Zip ties.
• Length of wire.
• Extra headlight bulb.
• Extra tail light and turn signal bulbs.
• Pen or two.
• A few quarters for a pay phone.
• A rag.

To be added:
• Chain repair kit.
• Cable repair kit (if it’s made, if not a spare cable).

Credit card, cell phone, and Bible.
Other than that, if you don't add a ball & trailer full of tools & parts, then your half a-s'n it!

right now i've got a stubby screwdriver, a 3mm allen wrench, a ball end 3mm driver, an 8mm box end wrench and a small screwdriver with 1/2 the handle cut off. with a couple of squirrel condoms tossed in.
