I bring back bug splats and leave bits and pieces along the way most times I seriously roll.

What have you lost while riding to a Rally or just daytripping round your neck of the woods?

Me? Two chain guards. One in Georgia and kept it. the other on rt100 in Exton, PA and tossed it in the trash bin. Right silencer heat shield about 5 miles east of I95 on I10 heading to the AK Rally 08. Funny that too. When I was looking at the pipe one night after several brews I thought, dang, why is the pipe's heat shield dull and dirty? Then a realization enveloped my worn tattered soul as I recalled that clanging I heard was not the heavy equipment tolling about but that dad burned heat shield... Sunglasses. Left them at the Scottish Inn Milford, PA. Pillion fender bolt which I noticed was missing while loading up Cinnamon Girl in Buchanan, VA one fine August Morn. btw, one of the chain guard bolts fits the pillion fender nut.

Exton, PA

Milford, PA

Buchanan, VA

Nothing too exciting for me....
I lost the round triumph cover off the left side on my first roadtrip up in Canada. Just recently I lost the blue high beam lens off the console.

I was with a 'guy about 2 years ago that lost all his oil and a filter.... cause I had to take a potty break.

The only thing I've lost so far (22,000 miles, 06 bonnie) is a rear turn signal. Didnt actually lose it, it was hanging by the wire

Sunglasses. I think I go through three or four pair a year, leaving them at gas stations.

Hey Moe,

I lost a 2 1/2 gallon gas container filled with premium grade somewhere between Moab, UT & the Needles district in 1979 riding a T140. It took years to overcome the loss.

No Stabil, so I guess if found it wouldn't burn very good after almost 30 years....

I had the bolt that holds the rear brake lever come loose while on the highway a few years ago. I didn't lose it though, it stayed in the lever and I pulled over and put it back. Not bad for 37,000 miles. I have since gotten into the habit of checking closely for loose nuts and bolts every time I wash the bike and giving little squirts of lube to those items that need it.

Lost my sidecover a few years back.
(dummy here must'a not pushed it all the way back into the three holding mounts after taking it off to clean the top of the sprocket cover)

And a few months later, the top to one of those retro Buco saddlebags pictured here.
(evidently because dummy here ALSO must'a forgotten to lock it down before headin' out on the road)

And those saddlebags are so rare, I haven't bothered to search for a replacement, so I just took 'em off the bike.

"what was that black thing that just bounced across the road?"
i asked myself that question a couple of years ago while doing
80something down I-91 on the Blue.

when i got home and lined the bike up to back into the garage,
i noticed the fork bag was open. suddenly, without warning,
a stringofexplativesatleastamilelong came flying out of my
mouth. the black thing that had bounced across the road in
front of me, was a pair of scary expensive, prescription eyeglasses.

i had changed into my riding glasses and forgot to snap the fork bad closed.

my glasses cost almost as much as a month's rent. that kind of cash i did
not have lying around. it's october. all of my flexible spending account $$ had
already been allocated to other medical expenses. however, i could still get
a pair of glasses, for free, as part of my vision benefits.

problem with those free glasses? well, they just don't have quite the appeal
or "look" that i am after. this is my face we're talking about so i am kind of picky
about what i put on for eye wear.

the next day went to the eyeglass place -- wearing an old pair of glasses -- read
old prescription. the process of picking out the new pair of specs was not pleasant.
i finally settled on the least, personally offensive, pair of glasses i could find. in january i
could replace the pair that bounced across the highway like a wind blown tumble weed.
as my flex account would be replenished, with extra funds put aside to cover the glasses.

i never did grow to appreciate the interim look. every time i looked in the mirror i felt like i was a stand up comic
from bizarro world, doing a really bad impression of myself.

the first monday in january found my back at the optometrist to order the "true - me" glasses.

i no longer wear the riding glasses. just keep my regular ones on under my full face helmet.
the fork bag has been retired, and i never want to see that bizarro world comic again.

other lost thingies:

1 side cover -- recovered by yute Matt
1 peace sign tire air stem cover thingie off Frankie. left it on the ground in a gas station in somethingorotherKentucky
1 pair of super yummy comfy riding gloves
1 headlamp ring -- recovered ( which reminds me
of a story about a muffler from my '76 corolla wagon
on the way home from Richmond VA, after a GD concert
a waaaaaaaay long time ago...)
certainly there are other little thingies
but i am cold and tired. too cold and tired
to ask my brain to remember what other thingies
large or small have kissed the roadway goodbye.

At least 1 K&N pod filter (okay it was two. I found both - one had been mangled).
One shock bolt.
A taillight lens.
A fuse box cover.
Oil pressure warning light cover.
Heat shield from left short TOR. Lost it twice, first time I found it. Second time, gone forever.
Had a saddlebag come off (easybrackets with old-style lock) but the rear bracket kept it attached. Still, it was messy.

That's all I can think of right now.

Oh, and a coupling nut under one of my floorboards. Caused me to scrape the chrome on the edge of the floorboard.

-Oil & filter (guess Stewart really had to go)
-broken clutch cable
-switchblade foot peg thingie - twice
-green turn signal lens
-blue high beam lens
-little triumph dash badge thingie
-left side saddle bag (and my brothers good right ankle, that's what he gets for kicking my bike at speed just cuz she's perty)
-left rear footpeg (same incident)
-Chrome clutch cover thingie ( ...and again)
-Chrome pillion/luggage rack whozamajiggy
-Left side cheese grater screw (different event)
-Garage door opener

And that's all I can think of for now. Time to take this one to bed. Hold on to your stuff tight, can get pricey otherwise. Apparently you can ask some of the folks around here how they know.

Not used to having strangers on the back well I was asked to take somebody on the back of my bike..... stopped of for a coffee (read beer) and we left another 45 minutes later and about 50 miles somebody in the group indicates that I should pull over and asks "where is Davy?" .....ever had that sinking feeling .....45 minutes going back turned into 35 minutes where we find "Davy". He refused to get back on the bike with me saying it was obvious I hated him ....It was a misunderstanding ... mind you he was a diddy ...had hundreds of bikes in his garage just none of them ever seemed to work....

I cannot decide whether to be a good example or a horrible warning ! Peace & respect http://www.tomcc.org/gg/ Eric

After over 7 years and 30,000 miles, lost the vacuum cap for the AI port on the left carb.

What an unreliable piece of crap these bikes are!

later, Tom.

Me am sad to be here....., wojo hate li'l m......, you am welcome, no try veal. It yucky.

Now for something different. What I've lost is the side cover with the America sticker. This was at a biker charity event that a local club puts together every year.

"That your bike?"
"Yeah."
"Nice. Is the side cover supposed to hang like that?"
"No. Thanks," as I walk over to fix it.

Several hours later I pull into the garage a see that it's missing. Don't fix your side cover while drinking.

Other things I've lost are; my pride (several times) and the diamonds I squeeze out of my butt cheeks when there's trouble.

I lost my way along the highway many years ago. I've been searching for it ever since.

Moe, this is a good thread.

1. Chainguard bolt here in town; promptly tossed the chainguard into a pile of stuff in the garage and just left it there.
2. My favorite bungie cord on the way to work. Saw it in the road on the way home that afternoon, but didn't stop to pick it up.
3. Oil pressure warning light lens. Still have yellow electrical tape over the light two + years later.
4. Front fender bolt disappeared on the way to NY in 2007...still need to get that replaced too.
5. Cell phone. Dropped it while putting my helmet on; forgot about it until I ran over/spun out on it leaving work a minute later. It looks rough, but still works.

I'm sure there are other things, but I either didn't even notice or have just forgotten about them. Does losing electricity on the way home from NY this year count?

Ahh yeah, the good old chainguard. Mine snapped by the rear bolt on the ride back from the races at Road America in Elkhart, WI (read Cheeseland). Yeah, didn't make it home with that piece of junk and have never put another piece of junk back on there. Actually think that worked out to be an improvement as I like the look without the stupid thing.

I think I saw some diamonds on the road as a car flew across our paths on the interstate in Detroit last year. I was wondering where those came from.

ARK rally T shirt. I left it in the drawer of the hotel at the ARK rally. (Dummy, why did I even put it in there instead of with the rest of my gear?) I called Anne the next morning and she said she would send it to me if they found it. I guess it ain't coming. Bummer.

Clip on sun-glasses (left them at a stop)
One right glove I think I left on the luggage rack whilst changing gloves.
Time - I seem to lose a lot of time while riding, destinations that only take minutes in a cage can take much longer on the bike.

Chugging along the fast way home northbound on I 81 after the 08 GA Rally, it felt like I was losing power. A pit stop at the nearest exit revealed my chain guard was trying to eat my rear tire. Al in all, a pretty easy road side fix, although my sidewall looked a might critter bit.

Left a side guard I believe at one of those first (or only?) motels on the right coming into Maggie Valley eastbound, November of 06. I didn't call them, so it may still be there if anyone needs one. It's black with a Speedmaster decal, and probably has a hoof print on the top of it. ;-)

My favorite inside zipper over the ankle light weight Summer weather riding boots, I believe at a motel in State College, PA, when northbound to the NY 08 Rally. I called them, but to no avail. I believe it was easier for them to put the phone down for a while, then come back & say, "Nope, no gots."

Prescription sunglasses are mighty painful to lose. Mine fell off my shirt collar and into my boss's gym bag while I was changing a water bottle. Turns out the frames I prefer are discontinued. That was a very long two weeks until they resurfaced. I gave my crow's feet a proper workout.

I lost one of those shiny rear wheel sprocket cover thingees somewhere on 60 at a GA Rally. Funniest thing was the rear wheel solo seat bolt that popped out and hit the rider behind me in the helmet during the Fla Rally. Of course, it was only funny because he wasn't hurt...
