This is the first I've heard of a "hidden filter".
I installed an inline glass bowl filter from Steadfast about a year ago, and never removed anything else.
I've just ran through my 05 service manual, and found NOTHING about a fuel filter (ch.9).
Is anyone SURE there is one on the 05 America?
