Before you pull the cover you're might to want to obtain a new side cover gasket. You might get lucky when the cover comes off but I've reset the gap on two bikes and neither gasket was reusable. A little RTV for the stator and pickup grommets will come in handy, too.
If you decide to go there you'll find loosening the footrest mounting bar will allow you to swing the peg and brake pedal far enough out of the way to get the cover off.
