possible? cost effective? I can get the piston/ring/gasket set up for $400. I've heard that I may be able to get the cylinders bored to the appropriate size for as low as $40 a bore. How much have people been spending to get sleeves pressed? and how hard is it to find someone able to do it?

I just coppied this from a earlier post I made...

"I just wanted to pass on some info for those of you looking into getting the big bore upgrade. I used a local shop here in Fort Worth, Texas that did a great job on the cylinders and sleeves. He specializes in doing bore work. I dropped off my parts, and I had everything back in a week. The total cost was less than $200 to bore out the cylinders and press the sleeves. He's a kind of quirky to deal with. For example, he deals mostly with bike shops, and prefers not to deal with individuals. Because of this he prefers to have you ship him the parts or have you courier the parts over. He really isn't a people person, I guess! I did go over there and meet him, and he was professional. I just thought I would throw his shop out there as another option for the big bore crowd.

are you talking about just boring and putting in pistons or sleeving also? you cannot just bore these bikes and drop in new pistons. it should cost say 200 for boring and sleeving. many guys on here have done the weisco 904 for about 1k

I'm showing my ignorance, but why can't you just bore them?

Thanks for the tip Mike.
I should also mention that I've decided against the big bore for now. $ and the 989 is where I'd really like to go anyway.

because they are coated with nikisel (spelling). they either need to be re coated or have sleeves put in. i went with the sleeve option for a few different reasons, but some have gone with re coating and have been happy also. i say just go with the weisco kit from bonnevilleperformance.com and be done with it.

I'd find the nearest place that has done a Triumph BB and have them do it. My dealer (D&D - Pensacola, FL) did mine. Barrels were swapped with ones bored and recoated with Nikisil because that's D&D's preferred method. If it's properly done with or without sleeves, you get the performance, and I feel worth every penny. If you aren't competent to do the work yourself, take the advice of the nearest place that's done one.

Speedlucky, are you talking about boring out to fit Triumph 865 pistons?
