I posted this on the old form and thought that it would be a good idea to repost it here.I was going to check my plugs and thought before i took them out i would blow out the hole in the head.Good thing i did! When i did this a LARGE piece of metal shaving came flying out!Where it came from i don`t know, the factory? It was fresh and clean looking and i haven`t done any work on that part of the bike so i don`t know.If you don`t have a compressor like me just use the compressed air in a can that you use on your computer keyboard,it works just fine. Can you imagine what would have happened if i hadn`t cleaned the head before i took out the plug!!!!Lot`s of money to fix that one!Our plugs are located so far down in the head that it is a prime spot for foriegn objects to get lodged.Do yourself a favor and blow it out before you check your plugs!Hope this saves someone from a costly repair!

Just watch your eyeballs when you do this....
That sliver of metal could cost you a lot more than a top end repair....

Thanks Triumph72,
Great advice!!!
I found a small stone between my spark plug and air injector tube when I removed the AI. I was just lucky I saw it before removing anything.

Good Idea. That would definitely save you from accidently dropping something in there and ruining yur day. But I would STRONGLY suggest before you do blow it out to wear some safety glasses. As Grump said you could do alot more damage. Believe me it's no fun having your eyeball numbed and a piece of metal drilled out. Been there done that.

I guess plugging in the compresser is the thing to do before checking the plugs again!! Thanks, I had not thought of that before. I do look, but its pretty dang hard to see down in there.

good advice. i always do that.

i wonder if the old "i dropped my wedding ring in the sink" fix wd. work if this did happen?

get your shop vac and afix a nylon hose (leg not included) and suck the object out.

just a thought. a reach magnet for metal shavings might work, too.
