sorry guys just venting here but almost everyone i work with rides a harley, if they dont its a crotch rocket. i get smack all the time for riding my america. just because the thing sounded like the jetsons when i first bought it. i punched out a few baffles and now it sounds nice. but all they want to do is talk smack. only because im on a triumph. THEIR ALL GETTING BELLS FOR CHRISTMAS, AND NO NOT GREMLIN BELLS, THE LITTLE "RING RING" KIDS TRICYCLE BELLS!!! ok i kinda feel better now, still a little tweaked, but ok. any thoughts?

Just ask them who's been going longer, and not much chance of hearing them "bells" over the sound of those pipes on a "hardly movin"

give it back to them. Not sure about how they mean it but in most cases it's just in fun and you can dish it back to them and everyone have a laugh. There is Ride a harley, ride the best, ride a mile and walk the rest. Or Did you know that 99 out of 100 Harleys ever built are still on the road today? The other one made it home. Just give em stuff like that. My HD riding friends and I give back and forth all the time and it's always a laugh in good humor.

Same here, I am the only Triumph rider in the group I hang with, and we all pick back and fourth. But its all in fun, actually have one guy wishing he would have went with the Triumph instead.

Ha. Few things sound as pathetic as a stock Harley. I'm sure all those a-holes have aftermarket pipes. And why would you spend twice as much for half the motorcycle?

Go to the HD dealer and pick up a dozen or so of the plastic bags with the big Harley logo on the side. Put a roll of duct tape in each bag. Hand them out to your buddies as Xmas presents.

Yeah but Jack, I'm wonderin' if maybe chewing gum and bailing wire might be a little cheaper than duct tape???

Ya getcha a tiny vial of oil - any oil. Whilst they ain't around, pick one and place a few drops under the little pig. They won't initially suspect a thing, because I'm sure each and every one is just waiting for thiers to ooze something. Do this to the same one for a few days and then start your tyraids about leakin' hogs... He'll be sick just knowing his reliability has been compromised and REAL irritated when you start hammerin' on him. Quietly have your laugh to yourself and wait a while and start on another. AND NEVER TELL THE TRUTH...

All my mates ride Harleys. Whenever we go riding and stop off somewhere the crowd is always around my bike which really irks them. Its good to stand out from the crowd mate.

Take them out on some real twisty road, leave them all behind, when they finally catch up ask what took so long, & blast off again while they want to dismount & rest. repeat.

Agree with you Gurdy, once they catch up on a stop they all start looking over the bike and ask questions on what makes them tick.

Yep! And maybe kickin' themselves in the a$$ for fallin' for all that "lifestyle" crap and not doin' their figgin' "homework"[ie: investigating other purchasing options] BEFORE they bought their little Harley-Davidson motorcycles!!!
(of course, they ARE somewhat in luck, seeing as how H-Ds tend to hold their re-sale value pretty well, and so once they have their little "epiphany", they won't be out all that much money after they FINALLY go visit their local TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLE DEALER!!!)

Some of us own both, Harleys and Triumphs. When I ride with my buds, I like asking them, Hey, You riding that Americian Honda again? It seems to set the mood!

This might make you feel better... A co-worker bought a 90 something HD with an S&S motor and carb. It was too strong of a bike for him, so he needed some lot time to get comfortable with the bike. Fast forward 2 months, I asked how the bike was working out and and if he was getting any good Fall riding in. He replied with, "nows not a good time to ask, it fowling plugs."
I had a hard time holding the comments back.
He then told me that he had a "mechanic" go though the bike and $800 later it's still fowling the plugs... no trailer or truck to get it to a dyno. Haahaa.
The last ride this guy took, it fowled the plugs 3miles from the house, changed plugs and got another mile and a half before it did it again.
I will say it sure is a pretty bike, just won't run.

I'm a minority too. In my office, three guys have Harleys, and two have crotchrockets. Thought it was great when some passerby popped his head in one sunny day when all the bikes were parked out front and said "hey who's Triumph? that's a sweet bike! better than all those (censored) Harleys!" Hey Adam...you been over yet? You guys rock, bunch of Seabees armored our trucks with plate steel stolen- I mean acquired from an Iraqi MiG hangar. Anyway, check out Combat Vets Motorcycle Assn

I have a bike bell (ring ring) on my Triumph. It's a blast, family looks at my bike @ a traffic light and I glance over and the whole family looks away quickly. I ring my bell I get a small look out of the corner of thier eyes, I ring the bell again and the rest of the family looks third ring the whole car is rolling w/ laughter. I strongly recomend BA riders try the bell!!!! Scottie Scott

I agree on the bell, mine was the best thing I added to my bike. If you go to a quality bicycle shop, they may have a nice size chrome one like I got. People look twice before they realize what it is(when the bike is sitting still and the crowds are looking at it instead of the Harleys) When you ring it, everybody smiles. Luckily, around here, nobody else has one, get yours BEFORE your Harley friends, and they can follow your lead!

In my garage sits a 1975 Harley cop bike with 250,000 miles, thats right a quarter of a million miles on it and only the top end was ever rebuilt. That harley sits right next to my 02 BA which I am working on putting the miles on. The question I have does anyone here with a triumph have that kind of mileage

Just ride your TRIUMPH as much as you can, and see if they ride their chosen mounts as much or as often.
Time in the saddle and miles on the clock. They'll respect you for it (as well as the machine), and they'll quit ribbing you about your TRIUMPH. Ride yours more than they ride theirs, and then staring asking them why that is.

Roadworthy, Dog, Blackwind, you guys have got it right. Ride it and ride it alot. And keep it in good riding condition at all times.( I perfer to do ALL the work myself, it takes alot of learning about alot of things, but I KNOW what condition my bike is in at all times) As for my harley, she gave up the ghost at 250,000 Sigh. Oh well you have got to rebuild a harley at least once, and I am. Old girl is getting the best of everything, and I can take my sweet time with it because Ive got a sweet little Triumph America to dally with. Now this is livin. As for the hardly riders(I have my issues with both Harley Comp. and their riders) Crank that neck around and see if my tank emblem realy did say Triumph,ha

All of the real old time bikers around here holler out TRIUMPH when they see me, they love the things and if they have time they will come over and talk for a while. I had a Harley when I was 23 and I loved the thing but hard times hit and I had to sell it. Been messing with all kinds of bikes on and off since I was 11. The reasons I bought the Triumph is I have always loved them and no one will think I am a lawyer The wanabe bikers (RUBs) that look like they came out of a leather bar hate it when everybody eeews and ahhhh’s over my speedy and totally ignores theirs. They hate it worse when their girl friends and wives ogle it and talk to me. I had one Harley rider say “What Triumph is still in business, if I would have known that I wouldn’t have got this @#$% thing. Oh well live and learn, anybody that really dislikes me for what I ride is too shallow for me to like. Now off to the HD shop to get some of those bags with the HD logo on them. I can get the bailing wire and duck tape else where. Christmas is just around the corner. Worth

I have to stick up for HD on one aspect. Many people harp on hp without looking at torque specs. A lot of torque over the primary rpm range means a lot more than how much hp there is at redline.
I did the big bore kit on my bike mainly for the torque increase which is extremely noticeable in the 2-5K range.
