I just don"t understand why some folks get so bent over the pauls on the tube... I doubt many would would say no to the money that it is paying them to be on a stupid t.v. show... it's o.k. to turn the channel.
Gimpy, Ultimately, of course, you are right. One CAN change the channel("if thy own eye offends thee, pluck it out"). But I'll attempt to explain why I have a little problem with this TV show.
The premise to the program consists of a formulistic concept, where the somewhat talented Paulie Jr is continually pressured and belittled by his "tough guy" pop. Now Mikey IS a pretty funny fellow, and does give good service as the comedy relief element in the whole affair. "And I gotta tell ya", Vinny does seem to know his way around a garage, also.

Now do ya get why I watched that program about 3 or 4 times that first year, and have as you've suggested since switched to other broadcasts that my satellite dish can receive during that particular time and night of the week?
And not only is the program's conventions repetitive, BUT let me ask you this.....How many times can you watch a S&S motor(or any V-Twin, for that matter) bolted into the basic hard-tail frame, and then add the 20 inch over forks applied to the triple-clamps, and then....OH YEAH....I guess Paulie Jr. DOES add his "finishing touches" to the bike by sometimes bending some metal, then welding said metal onto the tank/fenders/side covers/etc. and having it painted by someone else.
Are they actually ENGINEERING anything that would make their bikes handle better, go faster or even last longer?
Ummmm....I don't think so. To accomplish those objectives they BOLT ON other peoples' engineered products.
Hell..trust me! I could DO THAT! And also design and fabricate the "shiny parts" like Paulie Jr. does.
Yep....I admit my home-made wine(whine?) here does seem to contain a certain vintage of sour-grapes....BUT....I view these jokers as a "flash-in-the-pan" novelty, just as choppers from my youth(the 60's and 70's) ultimately became.(and will again).
Remember....The "Classics" of ANY endevor are timeless and have something truly meaningful to say about our culture.
Cheers, Dwight
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
