The smog police won't care as long as you leave the cat and only knock out the baffles. Now if they crack down on noise you may have a problem.

A good solution is to watch Ebay for stock pipes from the older bikes( 05 and older I think it is with no cat) and knock the baffles out of a set of those and keep your pipes with the cat. I have seen those stock pipes go really cheap, less than $100.

I have an 04 but I saved my AI for that very reason, just in case...
