I was in PA this week. At four lane intersection, directly across from me sat a Smart in one lane and an 18 wheeler in the other. That just made me laugh.

Looks a lot like the "HO scale" slot racers that used to be very popular.

Reminds me, I saw a Yaris the other day. Only thing sillier than the name is the way it looks.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I'd drive any one of those things!!!

I feel safer on my Triumph than I would in one of those.

Well, in that case Richard, if you ever make it out to L.A., I won't bother asking you if you'd like to take a spin in my 550 Spyder, 'cause that baby is almost as small as these little suckers, and I'm sure my baby is a heck of a lot less safe to boot, as it doesn't have all the airbags and other modern safety features that the SmartCars have.

(...but I gotta warn ya, you'd be missin' out on a whole lot o' fun, dude!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I like the modified (Photoshop?) cars in the link above, but otherwise, the Smart car isn't much to talk about. Datsun did it better 22 years ago with a vehicle that weighed only slightly more and had a good 4 cylinder gas motor. It was also infinitely more practical as a commuter and general runabout.

Those were a little bit more than 22 years ago...my parents had one of those, an orange 4-door, a '71 or '72 I think. Had it up til about '84 when it blew a head gasket.

but this article says

Purporting to be smart cars with a body kit, these sports car ripoffs surely aren't real! We can't find any evidence of them being legit and anything other than an elaborate Photoshop exercise, so we present them here with tongue firmly in cheek.
