Just to set the record straight, I've spent plenty of miles in the saddle in sub-freezing weather. Colorado, NY, PA, VT, etc. What I haven't done is ride in 35-50º temps through sheets of water. That's what riders have to deal with here in the winter. Believe me, I'd trade this crap for some nice, dry snow and ice anyday.
