They use a super locktite it will come off without breaking. Now to get the stem out of the other end once you get both nuts off put both on one stem and tighten them down to each other as a lock nut. Use two pieces of wood to keep from marking up the chrome [first remove the lens from the turn signal] then place the unit in the vice and tighten it just enough to hold it and then use an open end wrench on the bottom nut to unscrew the stem {IT IS TIGHT]. Then go to Ace hardware and buy two chrome 1 inch spacers and two pieces of the things that go into a table lamp that hold the light socket on and 8 nuts to fit them. You'll want to put 2 nuts on each end, [at least I did] Also you'll need to cut the wires somewhere along the line of this process so make sure that you leave enough to solder them back together.
