WARNING - This is a fairly graphic clip showing a nasty accident between two bikers. Please don't view if you think you'll be offended by such footage.
Accident
Three mistakes I can see that led to the accident occuring:
1. Big mistake - First biker didn't make any real indication to his mate that he was going to turn.
2. Fair enough he did a long 'lifesaver' check over the shoulder a short time before turning, but maybe should have done a second quick lifesaver just as he entered the turn.
3. Possibly not a mistake but the second biker on a better day might have sensed the first biker's lifesaver as an indication that he was going to do a manoeuvre and held back.
I do hope they came out of it all OK, it looked pretty horendous...

WOW!! These sort of films make me wonder... why were they filming it to begin with?! Looks like the guy who GOT hit walked away, and the second guy was ok enough to walk off the pavement, but then collapsed in the grass. Did you notice the second guy had his front wheel off the ground just before the first guy turned? And then he had his rear wheel off the ground just before they hit! Must have grabbed a huge handfull of front brake.

I'd say so Benny, gut reaction would be to slam all on. Must have been awful, that final moment of realisation...

I've wondered the same. For whatever reason they were filming, the outcome was as it often is - Nothing brings out the idiot in a man quicker than the presence of a camera...

Er...don't know what you mean. No one could argue that this photograph fails to depict the beauty of the celestial heavens on a clear summer's night.

Looks like organised fooling around. They obviously film each other doing wheelies and stoppies. They've probably been to same stretch of quiet road a hundred times before without incident ...
I wanted to take a video camera on the bike to the European rally next year .. but I thought about the things that seem to happen when a camera is around

Cameras might be the second scariest thing out there, second only to hearing a guy say "Here, hold my beer and watch this!"
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I read once that the second most heard words (after Awwwsh|t!) are, "Hey bubba, watch this".

Looking at this It make me think that the front rider even through he had a good look over his shoulder should have not crossed the line of the back biker. When ever I know there is some thing funny coming up behind me I check his line and keep well out of it. He should have rather pulled up to his right let the back come on by then turn. BUT then how easy it is to be wise after the fact.

The second guy popped a small wheelie straight after the first guy looked back and just before he commenced his turn.
There was no way he could have stopped in time as his front wheel was in the air for almost half the remaining distance.

I agree. Although the front rider did a long rear check, it seems he failed to perceive what he might have done. Happens to us all sometimes, as you say it's easy to be wise on reflection...

I think the rear guy didn't see the rearward check as a lifesaver, but saw it more that his buddy at the front was watching his mate at the back!!
The back guy then starts popping the wheelie, at which point the front guy starts to break and make his turn.
Rear guy drops the front end, grabs the front brake and whamo!
If only the front guy was a little quicker making his turn cause the rear guy hits the back of the front bike.
Could'a gone down as one of the ring-twitching near misses they'd have laughed at down the pub for ages ...

In all probability the rider at the back freaked out and grabbed everything when he saw that a collision was on the cards - clutch & both brakes which would make the front slam down as we saw - but of course, the front brake would not work until the wheel was on the ground and then STOPPIE!!..but it was too late. Interestingly, was there enough time and room to steer the rearmost bike around the front one? Probably yes, if the rider was not in panic mode...you often see this behaviour when people in cars with ABS get themselves into skid/collide situations - they just stomp on the brake and stop steering and wait for the cruch even though the ABS would enable them to steer round the obstruction if they kept control of the vehicle. I suppose the moral is to keep "riding" the bike to the very last moment - 'cos no one else is gonna do it for you!

Hi Ben, I also noticed the first biker had his front wheel off the ground at the start of film. If I was behind him and saw that, I would not have expected a turn. Well, that's another live and learn lesson. Remember: You are invisible to all other vehicles - USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.

Not one of my finest photo taking endeavours it has to be said Mike! I suppose it's what comes of trying to experiment with a new camera after several brews.

Probably hit the nail on the head there Adey. Looks like it was one of those classic cases of misinterpreting the situation as it were...

Wow!- What an accident. If one was to apportion blame from a legal point of view, It is clearly the 2nd chaps fault. Series of lead ups as Accidents dont just happen. ( in no particular order) 1. Clowning around 2. Safety Distance to short 3. Camera etc (what was going on before- speed trials ?) 4. Over familiarity of area 5. Primarily bad observation skills 6. Excessive speed

There are so many vids on the net at present where guys have their friends film 'em doing wheelies / stopies / burnouts etc. I think was one of them, possibly on a strecth of road they normally use.
I still think the rear guy thought the front guy was watching and waiting for him to do something, not realising the front guy was considering turning - while not indicating!

I can't imagine wanting to do a wheelie. Then again, I ride an America.
Yuck. The 2nd guy flew 20 feet easy.
