can you give a little more detail. is it coming from the motor or tranny? the motor could be loose valves, the tranny i am not sure what but tony had the same issue and the dealer said no problem. after putting in stronger clutch springs he said it went away some but was still there. if you still have warranty check it out so it can be documented. if not and you are comfortable with a wrench you can check it out yourself. but if you can give more info on the noise and when it started that will help

Determine if the left silencer's heat shield is loose. Do you ever have any starting issues? Strange noise when you engage the starter?

i know the left heat shield is lose, but this sound is when i let off the throttle, it sounds like it is coming from the middle of engine, i have a feeling it is time for valve adjustment.

Wendys bike was making a noise like that and when I welded the heat shield back on it went away. Not saying that is what you are hearing just saying, don't dismiss the possibility.

Is that the only time you hear the noise - when backing off on the throttle? Improper valve adjustment will show up pretty well any time the engine is running. If you can't weld the heat shield, try clamping it with a hose clamp to at least get rid of that issue.

I just came home from a 400 mile ride today. Gatlinburg, TN to Muncie, IN. At about mile 350 I noticed the same rattle or jingling sound coming from my motor/tranny? Everything is stock on my '04 SM except I have swithed out to a bigger tooth front sprocket. Did anyone ever figure out what the cause is? I will check the chain and heat shield on the silencer.
