I think the rear guy didn't see the rearward check as a lifesaver, but saw it more that his buddy at the front was watching his mate at the back!!
The back guy then starts popping the wheelie, at which point the front guy starts to break and make his turn.
Rear guy drops the front end, grabs the front brake and whamo!
If only the front guy was a little quicker making his turn cause the rear guy hits the back of the front bike.
Could'a gone down as one of the ring-twitching near misses they'd have laughed at down the pub for ages ...
