Hi Eddy, Yup, Had similar thing happen to my 12/02 america..
I was on the east coast of aust (i live on the west coast) and the bike had just had its 12,000 km service at a dealers. When i went to pick it up, the guy who serviced it asked me how long the speedo had been acting up...Never i said..Well , he said,it just showed 140 k/mh as i rode it down the back lane at about 15 k/mh..We checked everything and i took it for a ride..all ok...weird..He logged it into triumphs records in case i had further probs..
Then it gets weirder, The ride back home was about 4500 kms (approx 3000 miles)which took about 4/5 days and the same thing happened every day..Start up and start riding..all ok, stop to fuel up take off and the speedo would wind off the clock, few firm whacks and it would settle down again, all ok for the rest of the day no matter how many stops ??? next day same thing and so on, this went on for a total of nearly 7000 kms until it was replaced under warranty..In the meantime i tried everything, cleaned & lubed the drive
the cable and the speedo mechanism, swore etc etc all to no avail, i have since learned that this is how they fail as my dealer has had some others fail since then, Triumph know its a problem so they should look after you...My speedy now has 19,000 kms and all ok except its extremely optimistic. ie reads 124k/mh at actual 110 k/mh or 76mph at 68mph actual.cheers, Tadpole
