Folks:
Time to clean my foam Uni-filter. I have a small amount of aerosol spray left. I cleaned with a light degreaser and the filter is now drying. I also have two K&N gauze filters in my cars. Can I use the K&N oil on the Uni-filter?
I'm definitely going light on the oil this time, put too much on last year and my airbox was always pretty oily.

i can't see whay not. Back in the day we used to oil our honda foam filters with motor oil and it worked fine. In fact i believe that was the factory recommendation.

Don't see why K&N oil would be a problem. As for the over-oiling, better than under-oiling, just press a shop rag onto both sides after you oil it to remove the excess.

I emailed Unifilter to see what they think. The problem with the Uni is you can't press on both sides because of the metal screen on the outside of the filter. Once you over-oil, it's tough to get the excess out.

Amen to that. Keep that rag in there longer than you think is needed. I don't know what do with the oil that will gather between the screen and the foam.

It's really quite simply actually. Wash it in dishwashing liquid and hot water. Dishwashing liquid is made for grease/oil and will easily get rid of all oil even between the foam and screen. It disolves oil with minimal rubbing.Did mine that way and the foam was completely like new w/o a trace of oil.

I've had one for about a year. I guess I wasn't really clear about the pressing. I hold one on the outside and press one on the inside while holding the filter horizontally. It takes a little time but works well for me.

You could use K&N's red mineral oil, but the Uni would not clean the passing air as intended. I have a Uni on a car and Uni's oil is far different than K&N's. The Uni oil is the consistency of honey and very tacky (very glue-like).

I ended up having enough in my Uni can to do the filter this time around. I bought a can of the PJ-1 foam filter oil that was recommended.
In hindsight, it would be nice to have either all Uni or all K&N filters in my vehicles, not both. Of course, K&N didn't make a filter at the time I bought the bike.
Anyone want to trade a Uni for a K&N? <g>
