Is this a geographic anomaly or are there others in this Mad Max - esque scenario ? Here in Atlanta South area , maybe 80 % ot the stations are OUT of gas . Folks are driving around on a quest for nozzles that have no bags wrapped around them . Last night was an adventure to find diesel fuel , gotta have that to work . I don't trust these gas distributors here , manipulators .

We in the southeast get our fuel via the Colonial Pipeline. The refineries are not at max capacity, due to damage sustained during Ike, therefore the flow of fuel through that pipeline is diminished. Thay said maybe the end of this week they should be back to near capacity.

Saw on the news this AM that the low sulfur mix gas for big cites is not back on line. The guy doing the report was in Atlanta.

Lots of gas stations around me are out of gas. Some of them have been for a week.

Hey I'm right on the GA/FL border and there is no indication of a gas shortage here.

Same distance from the refineries but the other direction, there is plenty of fuel and the prices are actually dropping a little.

Missouri here, prices are dropping, we are just north of Texas, and the last I heard nothing was damaged during the storms.

I think the problem has more to due with the type of gas that the EPA allows the Atlanta area to use, and the fact that the refinery/distribution for that area is still having a problem. The EPA has the U.S. divided into at least 18 zones. If a refinery in one zone has a problem none of the other refineries can supply fuel to it, because they won't meet the EPA standard for that area.
Another example of our fine Government taking a complex issue and making it even more convoluted.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

tcv is completely right. Politicians are trying to get some of the EPA's rules for the Atlanta area lifted temporarily until supply reaches normal levels again but you know politicians; by the time they are finished arguing the problem will be history.
Today I had to put regular on my bike... I swear I heard it say something along the lines of "what the F is this S that you are feeding me?" lol

I went for a ride with a buddy that works for the Colonial competitor, sorry I don't remember the name of who he works for. We rode to the dam on Lake Hartwell at the GA/SC border. He pointed out both his company's and Colonial's pipes. They are not but 100 yards apart. He said that Colonial's flow is minimal and theirs is running at 75% capacity. This was due to the origin of the pipe TX vs LA. We have a boosting station just a few miles from our house and several towns around us are running out while other areas the price is dropping a few cents.
Just crazy ...

We here in CT also are fed via the Colonial pipeline, with no shortages. Market / supply manipulation? I believe so.

Plenty of gas around Charleston and Savannah. The price is 3.74 for reg. Colonial brings it in by ship and usually comes from the Islands,ie Aruba. I moved ten years ago from Atlanta and miss the old Atlanta that I grew up in not the mega city it became. I do miss going to Athens on Saturdays and the lovely north Ga. mountains, but love seeing the Atlantic from my home office. Marlin

Here in Hendersonville, NC we are getting in in spurts. Gas lines in the mornings and sometimes in the eve. I will be glad when this crud is over with. However I don't think it is going to be any time soon.

I was going to ride up to Asheville Sunday to meet some friends, but there is no gas there, and long lines if you can find it. We have gas here in Anderson.

This is getting ridiculous. Gas stations are normally dangerous on a bike anyway, but now some of them around here have to hire off duty cops, when they do have gas, to prevent fights and traffic patterns are all messed up by folks sitting in line on the road waiting to get in.

no kidding, yesterday morning I called Kroger down the street and they had mid and premium also. I put gas in the car and run back home to get some gas for the bike... most people there putting gas were folks in trucks or SUV's with a bunch of gas cans to fill up in the trunk... no wonder there is a shortage. This should be limited when supply is so bad, people are so selfish sometimes.
