Last Friday, I rode my trusted HD 883L Sporty to Motorcycles of Charlotte and left with a 2 tone blue '09 America. After riding 45 minutes back to SC, then 1 1/2 hrs home on Sat AM and the same back again yesterday, I've mixed feelings about it. Will post questions/concerns seperately.
I do love the fact that I'm a Triumph owner again, and love looking at it.

Maybe I can help ....
* Its not supposed to vibrate like the sporty did.
* The crowd your America draws is normal.
* The reason your cheeks hurt (the upper ones) is fun and youll get used to it.

I have an 07 America with minimal mods (TOR,airbox mod, rejetted, etc., and I really dig it. I rode the wife's 883 yesterday to "blow some carbon" out of it. Went about 60 miles on some back county roads and I felt like I had been beat up by the time I pulled back in the garage. Now I think her Sporty is cool, but I am glad I have my Trumpet instead. If she get's tired of it I plan to slam it into a hardtail bobber set up. In the future I was thinking of getting an mid 90's fatboy and now I am not sure if that is the way I would go. Maybe Moto Guzzi or BMW instead? I really don't care for the new Thunderbird. Enough of this Rant

Congrats! My America is the most fun I've ever had on a MC. Some days, it's all I can do to get off the darn thing when I get to work. Don't know what your qualms are at this point, but I'll bet they'll be easy to resolve. These bikes have much more potential for individual fit than Sportsters. Incidentally, there's a lot of experience and talent on these forums. Anything you need, just ask!  Jack

@ angus: it's not the carbed version. it's EFI. i also have an 09 america.
@ jim : does your dealer have the new TOR exhaust for your bike? i paid for mine some time ago, and i'm still twiddling my thumbs waiting for them to land

I just bought a new '08 America. It's a great bike. The only complaint I have about the bike is that the shifter pedal, the foot pegs and the break pedals are placed too far up front. As a short rider like myself, I have to stretch out my legs all the time to reach the pedals. This can be very tiring if you travel a far. I replaced the pedals with floorboards and rockers but still not as comfortable as if the pedals were to be placed two to three inches closer to the rider. Does anybody have a solution for this problem?

The bike is a new EFI one. I haven't ordered the TORs yet, money's a bit tight at the moment. The only reason I'm on the America is that I was already making payments on the H-D and got my financing so I'm only paying $20.00 more a month. I'll ride it basically stock through to the spring, then start looking at mods.
Honestly, though, the quietness doesn't bother me all that much. When I do change the sound, I'm only going to try and get the sound of my stock '67 Bonnie I had years and years ago. A little louder and a bit deeper tone.

I can't believe how expensive that stuff is. You know, if someone has to spend $425 just to make the pegs feel normal, maybe they bought the wrong bike. Americas are designed for taller folks. Half the people I see on Sportsters should be an a BA instead.

just got a new 08 good performance went to about 183 miles and still didnt turn on reserve,filled up anyway i was in a unpopulated area didnt want to risk it,bike has 800 miles on it is in for inspection at this time .Has triumph long pipes nice sound,getting ai removed was back firing on deceleration,so far love the bike ,maybe foot boards soon

To each his own. I am 5'7" and I don't find the foot peg position uncomfortable at all. I have to admit I was a little concerned when I first bought the bike. Especially considering my previous bike was an SV650 but I got used to it very quickly.

Jack,
I agree with you about the price. Raask make a similar rear-set to NormanHyde, maybe an inch or so higher. And I think they're about half the price.
