Noticed my header nuts and studs were rusting.... I don't want to change anything or move them, they are just fine where they are..... Is there something I should do about the rust? any thoughts appreciated. Thanks
Warren

I replaced my stock (rusty)header nuts with stainless ones and I used stainless spacers to cover almost all the threads. Looks much better.

I put Amsoil MPHD (Metal Protector Heavy Duty) on my header nuts one time only. I also use this as my chain lube. So far the nuts are rust free, and this stuff is fantastic as a chain lube. Comes in a spray can at $8 a pop.

Singring does that MPHD seem to really help your chain last any longer.I like the stuff so far.I am on my second can.It stays on pretty good.As far as it lasting longer I started using it when I already had high mileage on this chain.Normally I get about 15,000 out of a chain.Maybe this will help it live longer.I have already got 15,000 on this chain and seems to be doing ok.Any ideas on chain life if used from new?

I am beginning to think lube has very little to do with X ring chain longevity. I have almost 20,000 miles on my chain and have lubed it maybe 4 times and never cleaned it except for the over spray of washing the whole bike.

Me too, but think I used chrome.

Well, I'm with Dog on this one, I think the chain will last a long time with minimal lubing. The MPHD seems to act as a wear-barrier when metal rubs against metal, such as when the chain rollers contact the spaces between the sprocket teeth. As to your question, I suppose the chain will benefit from the MPHD sooner rather than later...can't hurt it at any rate.

I don't advocate not lubing but I don't and am going to get something over 20,000 out of my chain and sprockets and there is no visible wear. In some cases lube will actually accelerate wear, such as sandy areas where the lube will pick up the sand and that will act as an abrasive. The reason I don't lube is all my old Triumphs lube the chain for me so I just rarely think about it.
