I'm getting a spider web of cracks in the chrome just below the bend on the headers. Is this normal for an 07 BA? I'm not worried about the look, just if this is a red flag for something that needs attention.

Thanks
george

George, I can't answer your question but I am waiting for a reply too because I have noticed the same thing on my right header pipe. I know it is the outer layer of a double layer pipe but I haven't seen a pipe cut off in a section to see how they are built.

On my 08 the double skinned pipe is welded just after it comes out of the head, and then it is also welded just before it connects to the silencer. A hole is drilled into the header pipes (both) to fit the Lamba sensors. I keep checking my pipes as I hate the look of blue, but up to now fingers crossed nothing.

My 2002 has these crackles on both headers. Polishing helps it look better.

If it is actually cracking or peeling then I would have it back to the dealer as fast as I could for new pipes. No way chrome should be cracking in a year or so on a new bike.

Be careful if machine polishing the headers. It's quite easy to get down to the copper. Ask me how I know...

hey i got the same thing on my bike(07 America 650 miles).

Looks like spider webs(lines,,,crazing)with a slight hint of yellow.

Today,I did find my header nuts loose,,,re-torqued nuts to 19 Nm,not sure if thats the cause though.

will be monitoring,,,thanks

The spider web crackle was on the bike when I bought it, used. I swapped the original pipes for the 605's and noticed a tad of yellow on the headers also. I like the colors a well used pipe creates. I'll re-torque the header nuts just to be safe.
