You weren't singled out as there was not a group of crooked hat wearers. You were asked to comply with a rule that you didn't agree with. And just like a little kid you just had to get the next little dig in to the owner/employees. And then another... that is attitude... and that's what gets the spanking. Not buying a beer was just an excuse to get the guy with the attitude out before you escalated the situation. I've been in plenty of bars without buying a beer. I'm sure the other guys you were with, and had just met,were impressed that you were able handle the situation so maturely.
