I'll second the motion, removal of first baffle has minimal effect on the sound.

I removed the first two and drilled half inch holes in the third to get the sound I wanted.Your requirements may differ from mine,to each his own.

I had to remove all mine and same for Wendys bike. All I left in was the reducer cone and happy now. Your 08 will have a cat in it so be careful if you decide to do all of them since you don't want to damage that unless you are pulling that out too. Even so it is soft so don't just beat on it or it could wedge itself in there.

Just finished removing the 3rd complete baffle and now have a Triumph note I can be pleased with. Big difference from just removing the end one. My riding buddy is very impressed with the sound I've achieved. Going to stop operating till she's re-jetted on Thursday and see how she runs then. Down the road, I may just drill a couple holes in the remaining baffles. I've read here that guys who de-baffle their exhausts or change them out all together say that " they can now hear their engine". I think they're referring to all the new engine sounds I can now hear....as there's alot of them now audible.

And yet I've removed the first baffle from both my Americas and I'm more than happy. I don't want my bikes TOO loud as I'm a shift worker and my neighbours are nice. But it was too quiet before.

Yes definitely. Check out Pat's jetting calculator in the tech vault.

You can buy the jets a newspeedmaster.com or try a bike shop. I think Honda and Suzuki dealers may em. There just a few bucks a piece.

You will save money getting them at a bike shop , Honda is a good place to look but most jap bikes use or used those jets and even HD but they usually only have larger jets than you want since both cyl run off 1 carb.

I bought my America with 1200 miles and Bub pipes. I have the factory pipes and have been thinking about adjusting them, the Bubs are too loud for me. Can someone please explain how to remove the baffles? Thanks

Early on (like 1000 miles) I drilled out the back two plates with 1.5 inch holes and then put 3-1/2" holes in the second plate (I miss-placed the first hole so only had room for three instead of four I was going for) I ended up with a brilliant sound and it just got sweeter over the years as they get louder as time goes by.
I modified the air box and added a high flow filter and I took mine straight away to the dealer because I didn't want my warranty skewed, they told me it didn't need to be re-jetted and just raised the needle (if I recall correctly to richin it up)That it did and it has run great since, I have 28,000 miles on it.
Modifying the air box is a must as it changes the air flow going in to match that going out and keep the air/fuel mixture where it needs to be. That was 27,000 miles ago.
