Man, now I really want a bike. I've been lusting after an America or speedmaster since they came out, but never actually got near one.
These things are really nice!

I have a question about the tank size on the 09 America. Is it wider than the earlier bikes?

YES ! Don't let the new tank lead you to believe they are all that way . The new style has been a subject of debate here lately , the general concensus is not favorable . The earlier tanks have the indents for the knees . Quit reading and go get one . Now . Are you still here ?

Yes by a couple inches on each side. It is in preperation for the Fuel Injection as there will be a fuel pump in the tank. I also sat on an 09 today and it is a little strange with the large tank but still a nice bike. The one I sat on is still carbureted but I believe all the 09's will have the large tanks.

yes it's wider and i know many people that like it..

and indents for the knees are not unique style exclusive to Triumph ...

many bike companys have done this ,BMW,BSA,NORTON,HONDA,YAMAHA,MOTO GUZZI ....

just to name a few...

Don't be afraid , Wendy and I each have one and love them. Maintain the bike and it should give you years of trouble free fun. Don't be afraid to throw custom parts at it either!

And you also get a petrol light that comes on when you are going on reserve ("WOW") you just cannot knock that larger tank

You can still get it to hold a bit more by knocking out the tach dimple and moving the fuel bung forward if you're so inclined.

i have an 09 america, and i love the tank, because i'm taller than most people, so it fits me perfectly. i couldn't stand the 07 and earlier tanks, personally.

It was a collaboration of efforts. I started it following runner0023's lead in the customs thread "I have a problem with my tank".
My buddy Brian, who is a body man, grabbed the ball and ran with it for a while. Then back to me for the last leg.
Finally, following installation and chronic leaking at stock triumph fuel tap to tank seal, cutting the tank and tig welding a Harley petcock bung in place on fresh paint was done by my welder extraordinaire, Jim.
It seems to be screaming out for a flame job to me. But I'll decide when I finish the custom front fender I'm making.
If you print Runner's thread and bring it to a good body man, he'll be able to tell you if he can do it right away. It requires welding, body work and painting skills. I would recommend welding in a Harley petcock bung right away. Triumph's set-up is disgraceful.
Thank you for your compliments, Paul

I've had mine for 12 months now, 07 mod with 08 tank blue & blue, with saddle bags, high sissy bar and rack from dealer. But just lowered sissy bar by 1" and rack by 2". Looks heaps better.

Replaced bar risers, mirrors, belt drive. Added centre stand, clutch lifter cover, clock, tacho, side stand pad and opened up the stock exhaust.

Triumph promote "Go Your Own Way" Brent and Eddy have both assisted me to lighten my wallet. they both offer great products and service, takes about a week to get delivered down here.

All my missus keeps saying is "I don't know why you couldn't buy a complete bike".

Go down tomorrow and sit on it again. Then get off and go to the little table on the side of the room and sit in one of the chairs. The nice man there will ask you to sign a couple of papers and you can take it home with you and sit on it all you want. Only then, you'll be able to tell everyone else that they are not allowed to sit on it.

Weird that I bought my 08 Speedy over the phone, never signed anything in the dealership except the cheque and the log book(pink slip) on my old America.

Yeah, but they copied the Trumpy knee-dents, coz knee-dents are cool and non-knee-dented tanks aren't.

You need to link to the fullsize versions, not the thumbnails. Under your thumbnails in Photobucket, click the "direct link" field.

Well we couldn't agree on a price, or more to the point, he wouldn't agree to mine. So I did the next best thing, and bought a Speedy. Now to get it shipped to me.
