I was working nights at the time so I was still in bed when my wife came in and turned on the TV in the bedroom. We were sitting there discussing it and hoping it was a horrible accident or the work of a single maniac when the second plane hit. That was the moment I realized someone had declared war on us. Later, when I heard of the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of flight 93 it was obvious our country had been rocked to its foundations. I was reminded of the comments of Fleet Admiral Yamamoto when he spoke of waking a sleeping giant and filling it with a terrible resolve. I was filled with pride when I heard of the actions of the passengers on flight 93 and I hoped the “United We Stand†signs that popped up everywhere would be true for more than a few months.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
