I don't want to sound like some power mad speed freak here but there is no easy way of saying this...."What is the fastest that anyone has managed to get there bike up to?"
Just that on a trip to Northern France a couple of weeks ago I thought I would give it a go! Mine is a 2004 904 BA with 125mains stock pilots and thruxton needles on an 18t sprocket, airbox drilled with K&N filter. It flies up to 95mph then the wind really holds it back but I did hit 110mph with a head wind. Interesting to see what others have managed.

With aftermarket exhaust, and NO other mods, and not retuned for exhaust change, my 05 america showed 117 mph on standard speedometer. She was runing very lean due to exhaust mod, factory jetting & tune. With aftermarket exhaust, baffels drilled out some, 150 mains, 45 piolet, retro style air filters, and not sync'd or retuned, she hit 117 mph on standard speedometer. She is runing rich. Soon I hope to get a "Pro" to sync, and adjust the carbs, since I seem to be done modifying things for now (wouldn't think ignition coil or wire upgrades would require any carb. mods?)and hope to break the 120 barrier. All gearing is factory stock. Forums suggest the stock speedo is off by about 10% to the high side? When compared to the electronic speed monitors (radar signs) set up roadside in Florida, Mine agrees exactly with the posted radar readings?

None of these claimed speeds mean anything unless verified by another source. The stock speedo's are notoriously inaccurate.

I was running a two lane asphalt hiway (US 93) from Vegas to Alamo NV at a comfortable 60 MPH. Bike runs very nicely at the that speed and I can enjoy the scenery. Got to a very long and straight stretch and I opened it up. Got it up to 105 and felt uncomfortable so I backed down to to 85. Ran it for a while at 85 and gradually got it up again to 110. Ran it for a while and then I was passed by something white/red at a horrible speed which scared the poop out of me. Imagine running at 110 MPH and having something pass you like you are standing still? I do not know what it was other than one of those Rice Rockets with an idiot driving it. He had to be going 160 or so to move so fast away from me and the sound what unbelievable even with the full face helmet on. I backed down to 60 and enjoyed the ride a lot more.

Top speed on my speedy is 145 km/hr. The new laws in Ontario means anything over 50 kms on the posted speed limit means you lose your bike for 7 days and a hefty fine. its as bad as getting an impaired. Have a crotch rocket that I did 260 on. would rather cruise on my speedy and enjoy the scenery.

Dan, your going 110, but get passed by an idiot? At what speed does one become a idiot? From what I gather by most posts I read, one becomes an idiot ONCE they exceed the writers speed. Whats more important than knowing your speedo's accuracy, is knowing the satisfaction of "topping it out", what ever that may be. I allways "top out" everything I own! Just gotta know! My 68 El camino burried the 120 speedo by a large amount. My 3cyl.,2-stroke H1'S (have had four) all topped out around 125. My 97 GMC 1500 pickup had an electronic governor that shut it down @ 100.(I has pis---). Seems that if you'll do 60, an idiot is anyone who goes 60-up. If you do 120,An idiot goes 120-up. My name is Erle, and I'm an idiot. I've been on country roads, on my Bonny, topped out, with no helmet none the less(helmets not required by law in Florida), and felt totally comfortable! yes it's stupid, of course anything can go wrong, but I was in my comfort zone. MANY think anyone who rides a motorcycle is an idiot, do to the risk factor/consequence of a mishap. Of course, all bike riders will debate/defend that issue, AS LONG as the biker goes THEIR speed or less. And thanks, those of you idiots that think theres nothing wrong with my Bonny going top end.Not all the time of course, but usually at least once a month. At least the 120+'ers can relate!

It was pitch black, the air was cool, the road was winding, My fiance, Morgan Fairchild clung tightly to my torso as we sped in a mad frenzy toward a Motel 6, where my rich uncle, Tom Bodette kindly left a light on for us and a 5th of Knob Creek. I glanced briefly at the speedo and it read 245mph. Morgan Fairchild and 245mph - "Yeahhh! That's the ticket!"

With feet on the rear pegs laying down on the tank with my 3/4 helmet tucked down as close as I could get it to the tank I hit 115... still had more in her, I just wasn't man enough to find out how much.

Got my '03 Speedy up to 183 kmph with a headwind on a nice stretch of toll highway in northern Mexico before I had to slow down for a corner. Haven't tested the new '07 Speedy yet.
245 kmph has been top speed so far on my '06 VFR.

Da.mn Bill, that sux. Did they clock you at 116? if so you should be able to beat it. These bikes will barely break 100mph regardless of what that lying speedometer says.................... Oh wait. Were you going down that two mile long 6% grade on the 215? If so, they may be right A friend of mine joined the 200mph club on that stretch of 93 that Dan's talking about. Had a slightly modified 'busa (verified with 'busa club's radar gun). Dude's 62 years old, so don't plan on outgrowing it.

I've seen 115 on the clock on a hot day in the desert with a mild headwind. There was a little throttle left and it was still accelerating slowly when I backed off because there was some traffic ahead. My Night Train has seen 110 while following a dealer wrench testing the OL's Nightster for high speed wobble. Fastest I ever drove anything was 160 Kt in a Gruman AA5B Tiger.

I run a slightly larger than stock front tire that helps compensate for speedo inaccuracy. I have often topped 120MPH with saddlebags on. Could probably get another 5MPH without them. I'm pretty sure it'll do everything it shows on the speedo. 904BB, Stage 1 cams, 18/42 sprockets, gutted cannons, drilled and gutted airbox and a secret blend of jets and spices.

105 (clock) on stock TBA efi so probably 100 in reality but she will do more - probably 120 (on unrestricted German roads of course)!

My speedo seems to be off by no less than 10mph. Ironically, the odometer is dead on when compared to mile markers. I've gotten the bike up to an indicated 100mph for a short burst.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

I've had mine to the 120 mark indicated. Not sure what the error ratio might be as speed increases but when Tom, Wendy , and I all went to the PA grand canyon Tom got me looking at those road side radar things and between 60 and 80 mph my speedo is dead on by the speed indicated on those.

Just an aside on speed... The other day I was rolling up an Interstate with parallel local/express lanes. I had a wide open road ahead, so wicked it up to 90. Suddenly, an SUV decided to cross the grassy median from the local to the express just ahead of me. I got that rectum pucker and salty taste in my mouth that often accompanies imminent danger. Fortunately, this moron saw me and/or heard my Stebel and stopped before obliterating me and herself. RIDE SAFE GUYS!

Theres definately something wierd going on between my bike with a larger front tire and the stock tires too. Remember when wendys milage on the trip meter was like 5 miles different from mine?
But yeah I pass a speed checkpoint everyday due to the roadwork happening on my route and its always dead on. ranging from around 30mph to 70/80ish. Ive thought about the possibility that its reading other cars around me, but I happened to be on the road by myself a couple times and got clocked at the same speeds.

We were pretty much alone that day so I feel it was reading us. The difference in mileage is due to the different size front tire.

Yeah she reset that trip meter when we stopped for gas the same time i did. Its safe to say that the larger maxxis whitewall tire will get you 5 miles less than the stock size.

Ok just got the call from my lawyer. I took my 97 mph reckless driving charge to court...They made a deal; $500 fine, traffic school(online) and no points.....Could have been worse I guess... It was the reckless charge that I was most concerned about I didn’t want my insurance company to jack my rates or drop me.

WOW Steve!!! One-twenty, huh?! Now THAT'S impressive! Though I didn't know the speedos on those Harleys were as outrageously "optimistic" as the ones on our bikes are!!! (either THAT, or that mountain road you guys were goin' down on the way back from that rally was REALLY steep...and that must'a been one heck of a tailwind you hit TOO!!!) Sorry, but my '02 BA is pretty much bone stock also, except of the "snorkles" in the airbox and the A.I.s being long gone, and an 18-tooth counter-sprocket(and my baby runs pretty darn well up to redline), but out in the middle of nowhere(a long, straight highway in central CA, one very windless afternoon) the fastest I've ever been able to get her up to was probably a little less than 110, even though my speedo was showin' about 120.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
