I hate a backrest on a bike! But, like most, my passenger (wife) won't get on without one, Soooo...
I wanted a quick disconnect, and was going to get one for a Harley, when I came across the "Plug-n-play" type. Seemed like a good, cheap way to go. I didn't want to drill holes in my fender, but what choice did I have?
Well, I found a purpose for that "owners mannual storage" thing on the back of the passenger pillion seat.
I pluged the "Plug-n-play" backrest bracket right into the slot, put a pop rivet into the front area of it through the seat pan, and made washer shims and bolted the back area, as shown in the picture. It works great, is totally secure, and disconnects WITH the pillion seat! How great is that? Cheap, convinient, small, stays with passenger seat, the list goes on. I've used this for 2 years now, and just love it. The only thing I need is a bigger backrest "pad".

I did not see it in your post, but did you purchase this or make it yourself. I have been looking for something like this so my daughter will not fly off the back.

I purchased the metal piece off eBay, was for a Harley. They had one with a 90, and one with a 100 degree angle. I got the one that was straightest vertically, then had to hammer down the bend so it would fit into the owners manual tray in the original pillion pad.
Then I had to figure out how to secure it in place. I decided to use a pop rivit with a washer up front, as I didn't want to modify the original p-pad any more than nesseccary.
Then I came up with the spacer washers(cut from 1/4'' or 3/16'' aluminum stock), and found some bolts,washers, lock washers to secure the rear.
I'm thinking of making a brass block off plate to cover up the view from the rear, but I probably won't, as I only put it on when momma goes, and I have to put the ****** fender back on.

Also forgot to mention, the rear spacers are only mounted to the metal piece, not to the p-pad, as again, I didn't want to modify the original pad. It is secured by being an extremely tight fit only. The front pop rivit is the only thing really mechanically securing it in place. I couldn't even pull it out without a good deal of force before the pop rivit was added.
You may want something more mechanically secure. I guess it depends how much you treasure your cargo!

Was this a random Ebay purchase? Or is there a particular ebay store that has lots of em? I have had this very same project on my own to do list for a LONG time, except I have a Corbin P pad, so I don't have that slot.

Memories fade, but there where always several on eBay at all times. I must have punched in "backrest" or possibly "sissy bar". probably "backrest". Again, it was listed for a Harley.

Punched in "sissy bar" on eBay. That got me to the site within three pages.
Their name of store is "US Transportation Products", and their eBay user name is us-trans.
They sell for $140-170.00.
I bought the cheapest, since I knew I would mod. it to fit my needs.

I built one of these a couple months ago but havent had the time to finish it. I just bought a piece of 1/8" flat steel for $4 and bent it to fit. Except I ran the piece of steel to mount under all 4 mounting bolts under the p-pad and then it bends up and and around for the back pad. Ill have to slip some pics in here of it, I was just waiting to get time to finish it completely before I posted.

I'd like to do that, but I still don't know where to get just the backrest portion.

Benny try searching ebay for "backrest pad" or "sissy pad" stuff like that, cause I found just a generic pad for like $20 for the one Im using.
