Yup, off those tabs, & Yup, just put it on when removing tank.
It's no trouble at all to do, and makes handling the tank easier.
Worth it to me.
youre crazy...haha I'd wrap a single piece of romex around the base of one tab and to the other and leave it on under the dash at all times.
