P Diddy is whining that he has recently been subjected to the ignominious requirement of having to fly commercial airlines instead of on his private jet. He pleads with his 'Saudi brothers' to drop oil prices and provide him with free 'oil' (I'm pretty certain he meant Jet A), so he could return to his former lifestyle and not 'have to mingle with the less talented unwashed in first class' (my words, but I'm pretty certain that's what he's whining about, IMHO).
I was sitting in an office waiting room several days back, and I picked up a copy of a magazine which caters (panders?) to the interests of those high end folks with the means to buy super yaghts. I was leafing through this magazine looking at all the fantabulously appointed private ships and came to the back where the classifieds were. One of the ads stated that a particular ginormous floating palace had a fuel capacity of 94,000 gallons of diesel oil. My question is why isn't fuel oil taxes on an escalating scale for these examples of ultimate indulgence? While we are concerned about fuel conservation, CO2 emissions, and other concerns of common folk, there are still those who buy and cruise around on boats the size of an island and burn up fuel at an ungodly rate for their own personal indulgences. I applaud those who can make money and be as successful as possible, but this type of overindulgence in this day and age should be looked at carefully and possibly curtailed through the use of taxation and other 'conservation' fees.
