Who hasn't?1 (yea i know...those who have OTHER pipes) but seriously, the first thing i'd do if i were you is pull the snorkel off and add a shim to the needles and a 130 main jet. The snorkel removed will give you a power boost that'll have you smiling big time and the shim with bring it about 50% as much further still. Mine has the snorkel removed, a unifilter with the bottom drilled so theres as much air coming in from the bottom o0f the airbox as the top, 130 mains, TBS needles shimmed to mimmick the same length as my stock needles, and 3-1/2 turns on the screws. It runs worlds better than stock.

pull the seat, grab the thing sticking up and work it out. (ya can put it back if you do not like it) But, I do not know what it is in there for......can someone tell me why? 2 inches of the filter used? I do not understand all this........

yea, angus is right. It just pulls off and is right next to the tank under the seat. Some say it's for intake noise reduction. But while it does reduce intake noise on the booneville quite a lot according to bonnie owners, it make almost no nise difference on the america and speedy. What it DEFINATLY does do is linit the amount of air intake and pulling it off has been proven to show at least 2 HP increase. When i pulled mine i was quite suprised at the boost i got and even more after i shimmed the needles which the extra intake allows.

Don't forget to post about the re-jet experience.

Are the re-jetting specs that you are mentioning for the 790cc or the 865cc engine, or for both? I have removed my snorkel and can't decide whether i am getting more power or if it just sounds faster. I have the 865cc Speedy so will i benefit from re-jetting or should i just leave all well alone?
Cheers

I'll offer a guess. The snorkel probably does several things. It probably:
- helps prevent dirt and debris from falling into the airbox
- helps moderate intake pressure for a more consistent tune job coming from the factory, thus satisfying EPA requirements
- reduces valve and chain noises
I'll venture another educated guess. I'd say pulling the snorkel is worth about 5 notches on the main jet scale. In other words, if you are running all stock with factory 120 mains, pulling the snorkel would allow you to run 125s. Keep in mind this is a comfortable guess. All disclaimers apply. The trick is to maintain an optimum air/fuel ratio. A quick google search puts that at 14.7 to 1.
If you pull the snorkel the bike breathes better, making it lean. But to get the full effect you need to unrestrict the exhaust end too. Installing less restrictive pipes makes it even leaner. Installing bigger jets brings the air/fuel mix back into balance. On top of that, your power is affected by other variables like humidity and barometric pressure. It's a black art, and hard to get exactly right without a dyno and exhaust meter. The seat of the pants method will get you in the ball park.
Regards,
Cody

ALL THINGS CONCIDERED THE TBA 790 AT THE MOMENT HAS IMPROVED ON OPEN ROAD RIDES,IT NOW RESPONDS BETTER AT ABOUT 80 KS IN TOP GEAR WHEN U NEED TO PULL AWAY FROM SOME NUT IN A TIN TOP,PRIOR TO CHANGING THE PIPES FROM TRIUMPH LONG /OFF ROADS TO NEW THUNDER PIPES& THEN JUST THE REMOVAL OF THE SNORKEL IT IS NOW A TOTALY DIFFERENT RIDE!!!.ON THE 5/1/06 IM BOOKED IN 4 A 24000 SERVICE SO WE WILL C WHAT DIFFERENCE THAT MAKES ALSO WITH 130 MAINS FITTED. Cody, Removing the snorkel doesn't affect the valve or chain noise a bit. Those noises are still present, only masked under the increased intake noise. Most of us like the sound/performance gains from removing the snorkel anyway.

Hey Steve, Well, I was just speculating. You're right about the noise. I've pulled my snorkel and I'm hoping to get rid of the airbox altogether before summer.
